Re: another electric fan thread!

well i wonder why that is?

Could be a variety of reasons .....

Careless manufacturing resulting in a plugged tube or two ...

More open ... or more closed, fin spacing ...

The diameter of the tubes and the amount of liquid they flow ...

is the stock radiator a single core?

Depends on what was fitted when it left the factory ...

I row, 2 row or the Middle East sales market .... copper rad.

Re: another electric fan thread!

well i have a csf 2 row in it now and i just got this done and will be installing it hopefully tomorrow

Re: Is this a good water pump?

haha ok cool thank pioneer. Is replacing the water pump a PITA?

depends on how many times you've had the front of your XJ off before :D

drain the coolant, pop the hoses off the radiator.
take the bolts out of the radiator core support from the top and the nuts off the studs going into the header panel, remove the electric fan.
take the core support piece off, pull the trans cooler lines off the radiator, and remove the radiator.
take the belt off, take the mechanical fan and pulley off the pump.
pull the bypass hose off of the pipe that connects from the pump to the heater system.
remove the bolts for the pump ( I can't remember but I think the power steering bracket bolts might go through it, if so that's got to come off too).
tap the pump a couple of times with a rubber mallet and give the flange on the front a good yank and it should pop right off.

While you're this deep into it replace the thermostat with a new one if you haven't done it in the last 10k miles or so, with a OEM temp 195° stat. lower temp ones will kick the gas mileage down a bit as the 4.0 likes to run between 200 and 210. a new radiator cap wouldn't hurt as well they're so cheap.

This is just the order i go through it in, your plan may vary. I've found it's far easier to get the pump out by pulling the radiator first than shredding the back of my hands on the fins and cursing when I slip and flatten some of them or worse yet poke a hole in the damn thing.

Re: Is this a good water pump?

thanks grimm. next question, shoud I just get a flowcooler or electric? i have a 185 t stat in it and converted my mech fan to electric and today coming to work being 91 and humid and stop and go traffic for about 8 miles with max a/c temp got up to 203 is that bad for having a 185 t stat?

Re: Is this a good water pump?

but what im asking is shouldnt it run cooler with a 185 in it? and if i put the 195 back in will it run hotter than 210 since from 185 to 203 is 18 degrees and if i put the 195 back in will it heat up to around 213+? I have a brand new 2 core csf radiator in it and the stock a/c condensor.

Re: Is this a good water pump?

sorry im dump ac condensor wouldnt do anything lol. Sorry for the blonde moment

no, the thermostat does not control the max temp that your truck will run at. Cooling system capacity, radiator type, airflow, and coolant mix do. There should be no difference between the max temp on the system between thermostat types. The thermostat controls the minimum system temperature.

Putting a 195 back in will only cause it to run as the manufacturers and design engineers intended...

Re: Is this a good water pump?

oh ok thanks man. So flow cooler or electric water pump since i want to replace it just to make sure i have a new one in.

Re: Is this a good water pump?

I don't think they are worth it personally. I would just get one of the new ones from a local parts house and call it good. I have had no problems with mine running a stroker in 100+ degree heat every summer. A stock jeep with a good radiator and clean system should be fine. Don't waste the money.

Is there a big difference?

I have a 96 cherokee 4.0 4x4 np231 with a/c and i was wondering is there a huge difference in the performance from the old aux fan to the newere 10 blade? Or shoudl i just get like an FF dynamics 10 inch fan that will pull 1100 cfm and use the stock aux fan shroud?

Re: Is there a big difference?

After looking at the FFD fans first hand, and listening to the owner of those fans, I would go OEM for the reliability. I guess I was lucky, but my 96 is one of the last old style XJ's and has the newer style fan, so I can't compare the two. I'd still go OEM for either the old or new style.

Re: Is there a big difference?

You have a 96... you already have the new fan.

Also I suggest searching instead of posting new threads... you've created new threads for a lot of commonly asked questions recently.

Re: Is there a big difference?

sorry man and no i dont have the new fan. only the 96.5 and newer has them. I counted the blades and its not the new 10 blade. Sorry about posting new threads, i know people want people to search shit but i just like quick answers i will stop posting.

new idea :D

alright well i think im going to get a 8 inch FFD fan and mount it as a pusher behind my grille directly in the middle of the radiator :) this will give me a cooler transmission cooler as well and condensor and radiator :)
