I need anti virus

They'll try to trick you into clicking the one that you have to pay for, just pick the one on the LEFT and make sure it doesn't have a price associated with it. It is a 51mb download. Nice stuff, I've been running it for years.

For freeware I run a combination of Avira, Ad aware, and AGV 7.5. I don't let any of them start at system boot; I only run them when I want to scan or update. The newer versions of the AVG can eat up too much RAM, especially if you let them run in the background. I like the Avira better than AGV for detection and removal, though.

Free = AVG

However, I pay for and use Webroot

.

X1000 on the no start up issue

used Avast! for about two years with no problems, then the desktop got completely wiped by a NASTY virus...

We've been running Norton 360 ever since. Free is nice if you go on only safe sites and are cautious about email attachments, but we haven't had a problem with Norton 360 (other than it being a bit slow) since we got it...it was totally worth the money.

Linux :)

what is this "anti-virus software" that you speak of, and why do you have to get it extra apart from the actual system?

seriously, download Ubuntu, installed ontop of windows it will automatically setup a dual boot system, and after about 3 weeks you will never even boot to windows except for some games if you are into those. Been on it about 2 years and have never looked back.
