My other job is actually to drive this lady's kids to football and soccer practices. The new mini-van is definitely an Expedition. It's like this: Expedition, Expedition, the occasional mini-van, Expedition, my Jeep, Expedition, Expedition, Expedition... etc. lol... :sad1:

(edit: w00t, 500th post...)

Hey all. Sorry I was delayed getting back. The plan was to grab the first reply and say, "What d'ya mean it's not an XJ?! The guy at the lot said..." yada-yada-yada hahaha But there wasn't anybody around last night and I was beat.

Fact is: I got the rental from the chick's insurance at 17:50 Monday. By 17:50 Friday I had put 1,000 miles on it, driving up and down I-45 between Huntsville and North Loop 610 looking at crappy beat up heeps. This is the best deal I could find. A thousand under Kelly Dealer Retail/excellent for a '97 ZJ Laredo, 2WD, 4.0L, AW4, Infinity Gold premium sound w/ CD, power everything, privacy glass, alloy wheels, CC, A/C, ABS, dual air bags, factory tow, etc., 144,000 miles. Interior is perfect except somebody tried to repair the rear left window motor and fugged up the panel. So, repair the motor and source a replacement panel.

Picked it up Saturday morning. As of Sunday evening, no problems. I'm going to give it to the dealer shop Monday (I know, but here in Huntsville the Team Dodge shop is good) to give it a look-see, change fluids, etc. Bottom line is, we have to be on the road Tuesday with two vehicles.

I'm serious about the sticker, though, and I will renew next spring with the same user name. This will be my DD, but I still have XJ Dreams - wait - I feel a tear coming on...

Just one shopping story -

Printed a YAHOO! Cars add for a '95 ZJ Laredo 4x4 listed at $3,450. Drive all the way down to I-610. Meet the sleeze ball. He takes me to the ZJ. He's about to hand me the keys for a test drive when he asks 'How was that listed?' I hand him the printout. 'Ah,' he says. 'It's listed as a 4x4, and it is a 4x4, except there's no front drive shaft.'

aaaaahahahaha

Damn, that was a long drive.

Well, my 11yo is over 5' and the 6yo is over 4' and the 8mo is at 97 percentile on length, so the slightly larger ZJ does help for haulin' duties. This one is 2WD, and it's the 4.0/AW4 combo. I would have taken a 318/torque-flight combo (grew up overhauling those), but this is good.

My buddy just got a 1997 ZJ Limited and can't wait to join me on some trails. I don't think his wife knows what kind of trails he will be going on!!

This one is only 2WD, but it is SFA :D

These would be lifted!!!

Funny story to close the thread.

I took the ZJ to the shop this morning to change fluids, pressure test the cooling system, and give it a good going over. When I turned it over to the service rep I joked that he didn't need to concern himself with the missing rear left door panel. The service rep called at 15:00 to report that the radiator has a hole (that explains it running cool and the overflow bottle being bone dry  ) I'll talk to my lawyer friend and see if there's a snowball's chance in hell in getting the sleezeball used car salesman to cough up the cost of replacing the radiator. But, that's not the funny part.

After discussing the radiator, the service rep says that he got to thinking about that door panel. Turns out the lady who last owned my new ride had it in the very same shop recently for a mal-functioning window motor. When she was quoted $300 she ran down to the shop, demanded her Jeep and drove off, never to return. Here's the kicker - she ran off without her door panel. Team Dodge of Huntsville has my door panel !!! :roflmao: I told him to throw it in the back - I'll fix the window motor myself :)
