Well, last night while going to a freinds house I saw an old Jeep wrangler, the original circle lights and it was brown with the eagle on the hood.....(not sure what kind exactly, maybe one of you guys know).....back in some weeds.
So today I went to the guys house and asked his wife (who I figured would be the only one home in the middle of the day) if I would be doing them a favour by hauling it away for them. She got a big smile on her face and took down my info. She said it was riunning a year and a half ago but in order for it to be inspected they had to do "some major work to the engine" (cough cough).
So I said I would be glad to take it off there hands and she said she would be too!
So now I am waiting for her hubby to give me a call.....exciteing.....if anything...I know it has a set of 31's on it that look decent. Hopefully her hubby doesn;t get the wise idea to get some money out of it!

I think the golden eagles had the 360ci and the 20TC along with a rear D44 but I could be wrong..

Heretic!

Don't be calling a CJ7 a "wrangler"!

:D

WHoa!! Hold it there! This is an XJ site, and being new at "do-it-yourself" all I know about is 92 XJ's! So, this is why I am posting the thread, because I dont know what it is exactly......while I went to look at it I tried to see quickly if it was written anywhere but didn't see anything.....so to me it looks like a "Wrangler" type vehicle (i know its older)

nonetheless, I'd like to get it and learn!! Thats what it would be, slowly rebuilding it and LEARNING so that some day I can be like you and yell at some one for calling a CJ7 a Wrangler!

Boy, I would expect to be called a heretic on a NACJ7A site!

HEHEHHE!

:)

Not certain, I'd guess anywhere between `75 to `82. I think the golden eagle package was discontinued around that time.

FWIW, it really doesn't matter. A CJ7 is a CJ7. If you plan to keep it stock then look at the condition of the machine. If you plan to build/wheel it then you'll likely replace everything so it doesn't matter what year it is.

Oh, and it is possibly a CJ5 if the eagle package is the primary idetification mark for you. I'm assuming you know what shape the door on a "wrangler" is. LOL

Yea, keep holding your breath.

Maybe she's gullible but I doubt the hubby was born yesterday :). That said I did have a neighbor give me a 69 Willys wagon [wagoneer] that had a leaky gas tank that cost me about $600 to fix, but they were weekenders and we kept an eye on their place across the street when they were in NY where they lived.

Look at the door openings. If the bottom of the opening is about 12" long (parrallel to the ground) it's a CJ5, if the opening is about 18" long, it's a CJ7.

Not any more rare than one of that year are. They are the older equivilent of the sahara more or less. The golden eagle is pretty much a trim level, came in gold [only color I ever saw though I have heard there were white ones] and had gold wagon looking wheels and big eagle on the hood. They are nice though. If you get it there are some things to check, there is a cross member in the rear behind the gas tank that tends to rust on a CJ's and YJ's too, good idea to park it on a driveway work area, drop the tank and clean out that whole area under there and fix any rust that will be present, you'll want to do that anyway to get the old gas out and then blow out the fuel lines and/or replace as needed. If it has the V8 304 or 401 if I remember right then thats good, they were strong engines. A good source of parts and stuff for your area is www.bmja.org, local jeep club out of reading, we do the trail stuff, cutting and guiding for JeepJamboree's and Camp Jjeep also at paragon and rausch creek. If it is in really good shape it may be very worth while to restore it completely, talking body off, clean and paint frame, all new brake lines, etc, back to factory or pristine condition. Thats if that is your thing.
Hows the body ? www.quadratec.com has pretty much all the CJ parts you need. If you don't want it because he wants money for it shoot me an email or PM, where is it near anyway ?

hey rich, glad to know you! My brother lives 5 minutes from BMJA, he lives in Lenhartsville.
I live in Tioga COunty pa, near wellsboro. YEah, I would love to restore it but the cash isnt flowing right now, I have half a mind to park it (if I get it for free) and then work on it in my "spare time" and do what I can without buying anything for it, then slowly buy things when needed. I'd love to have a built and restored Geolden Eagle...dont see too many.
I will definitely gove you a call if he wants money fo it. I would like to get the tires off it though if they are still decent. They are 31's I think country squire brand, mudders.
Hearing about a v8 excites me....any chance of it fitting in a 92 XJ sport??

Hmm, funny. Only ever seen white ones, never gold. Must be a Canuckistan thing.

well this one is a golden brown color with a hard top and the wheels are pretty rusted looking, but it looks like they were either the gold wagon wheels or they were white......not sure...still waiting for the phone call

Naw, we got both out here. There's a white one I occasionally see running around in my neck of the woods.

Well, at 6'5"/260lbs I've not given too many CJ5's a closer look cause I already know I don't fit behind the wheel :D A CJ7 or 8 on the other hand are fair game. I don't know if all golden eagles were 5's or 7's or if it was available in both. It would be something to play with and work on.

Here's a TJ golden eagle
