Humming noise upon acceleration

Before I start, I have already used the search tool. I have replaced the Transmission mount. But it turns out that is not the problem. I have a bad humming noise upon acceleration. I had a leaking pinion seal and when i went to replace that i noticed my pinion inner and outer bearings allowed alot of play in the pinion gear. So I went ahead and replaced the races and pinion bearings and pinion seal. I still have the noise. Could it be wheel bearings? I am replacing u joint this afternoon. Its def. in the rear cuz i dropped driveshaft and took for a quick spin down the road and it didnt make the noise. Can someone please help me out...the noise is drivin me nuts...its reached the point i cant even turn the radio up louder than it haha

get subwoofers.

I would see if the ujoint fixes the problem. Are you lifted at all?

X2, if you dropped the rear DS and it didnt make the noise, then its one of the U-joints on your DS.

haha get subwoofers...thats a good one lol i may end up doin that lol haha It has 6inch long arm but driveshaft angles seem to be ok. Ill let you know what happens after the ujoint change Thanks for the quick responses

new u joints are in.....still humming...Need help bad. are axle bearings supposed to be greased....could this be caused by an error in setting up bearings....everything seems to have measured out correctly.....let me know what you think cuz i have NO IDEA.

though my radio will drown mine out, my 87 is humming too... kinda a bell tone but not a kong, it hums. im interested in what people have to say. my ebrake cable was replaced recently by PO and im thinking it might be that the rear drums are ringing...

when i was looking for a jeep, i tried one that was humming too, seems like it was coming from the rear drums.

I have the same problem with my dana 35.Did what you did and drove without the rear shaft(in the process found that my pinion nut was loose).....noise went away.I haven't got to the bottom yet but my thinking is if a bad wheel bearing was our problem it would make the noise with or without the shaft in.....I suspect either gears or pinion bearing in our case.

The fact that you had driven on a toasted pinion bearing could have ate the gears up......I think my problem started when I drove on a loose pinion nut for a while until I figured it out and re-torqued it.Can you see how our problems are similar???

im going to check my pinion nut. my jeep sounds like its comming from the pass side rear. and mine does it on acceleration and at higher speeds. usually above 35ish. liek i said, new ebrake cables on each side... im going to do some investigating. later today or tomorrow im going to throw it up on the lift and use the steth. to see where its comming from.
