HP is unbelievable

While everyone else, MS, Ubuntu, RH, apple, etc has automated update processes to keep the systems up to snuff HP went the other way and locked up the patchs to HP_UX. You would figure that with their servers running upwards of $80,000 they could come up with a better system. I'm on my third phone call, even the contract support people don't know how it works, I want this, so far, 90 minutes back that I've wasted with a phone stuck in my ear.
When I hear about a company like this being in financial trouble it's because they deserve it. Now sales support wants me to leave a voice mail message, un-f(*&^%-believable.
 
Man, I don't think I've touched HP/UX in probably 5 or 6 years (not long enough in my book), but that they still carry on like this amazes me. I had similar experiences back in the late 10.x/early 11.x days.

I really hope they have enough Big Iron customers left to support this approach, because scalable midsize commodity computing has destroyed a lot of their traditional customer base.
 
Makes me glad we only sell to em. Yikes.
 
I'd ask fofr details... but I'm out in Moab, And out of touch. HP isn't the only one, Sun, I mean Oracle has limited patches to paying customers. I despise auto-updating systems.

A thought which likely would not have existed - or at least been as widely-communicated - were it not for the technologies that made its inspiration, transcription, and dissemination possible ;)
 
At least they're not as bad as compaq... Oh wait they bought compaq
 
I'm just praying that my HP48 calculator never dies, since they got outta that business years ago. Interestingly, the modem number (503-715-4448) and the "telnet/ftp/World-Wide-Web" address (192.6.221.13) listed in my 1994 manual still seem to be owned by HP.

Auto-update can be a bitch for sure but man I hate, hate, hate pay for anything customer service!
