What is the difference in these, and how do I know what I have?....Just outta curiosity.

The difference is where the pinion yoke is located on (or enters) the axle housing. Above the centerline or below. 1984-1999 are high pinion, 2000 and 2001 are low pinion. Wrangler and most Grand Cherokee use similar D30 front axles.
