How's this tranny mount look? (vid)

This is while the vehicle is cold. When it's been driven and warmed up, there's quite a bit more play in the drivetrain. I'm trying to track down this annoying bang noise under my seat/feet when hitting bumps. The mount is not torn or appears to be deteriorated, but rather spongy. It has 100k and it's the original. I've been having this strange vibe at certain rpms during acceleration that seems to get worse the longer I drive so I figured it might be caused by the mount warming up and becoming looser, throwing off the angles.

Note: that is RC's long arm crossmember with raised mount.

replace the mount.

replace the mount.

ehhh....the thought of having to remove about 12 bolts and dropping the arms just to get to it has been keeping me from doing that lol. I just wanted to get opinions on whether it's worth doing it nor not.

Thanks for yours.

Change it!!

I've got the same long arms man. I did it WITHOUT removing the crossmember. Totally resolved the acceleration vibe I had.

1-Remove the 4 center bolts
2-Remove the tcase skid
3-Use your factory bottle jack with some blocks of wood, and jack up the tcase, at least 3 inches. (There is room, don't worry.)
4-With clever use of a breaker bar, loosen the 2 bolts holding the mount. Remove the bolts, and the mount will be able to slide accross the crossmember, and drop out near the side.

I changed mine using my standard set of tools, on my back, in my parent's empty house that is for sale, in 1 hour. haha

Oh my...I think I love you. LOL

Thanks for the tips on that. I wasn't sure it was possible to get the t-case up high enough. You got the raised tranny mount crossmember, not the original crossmember that dropped it?

I went with Brown Dog natural rubber for the engine and a Daystar poly for the trans.

Never cared for that goofy feeling when the a**end of the trans is moving around while accelerating hard and shifting.

Alrightly maybe I'll go with poly. Mine's an 01 and i know there's two different poly mounts depending on the exhaust mount. I gotta dig up that info on part numbers that you posted before in another thread.

joe_peters, I was wondering if you could help me determine which mount I need.

Here's my exhaust bracket:

Daystar says if the exhaust bracket is between the crossmember and tranny support bracket, use the 3" mount. Mine is obviously in between. But here's the thing that's confusing me. The 3" mount is not listed for my 2001 AND the distances between the outside transmission-side bolt and crossmember-side bolts are the same on both sides of the bracket.

Here's the 3" mount:

Notice that the tranny bolt hole is less than an inch from the crossmember bolts on one side and further on the other side. My tranny bracket has both sides evenly spaced at 2" apart.

This makes me think I need this mount:

Cuz both transmission bolt holes are evenly spaced away from the crossmember bolt holes and this one lists 2001 models.

My stock mount from crossmember to transmission support bracket is about 2" high.

So which one do you think I should get?

Haha no problem man.

Don't get poly. I like my rubber mount from autozone. No vibes at idle. In my case, the exhaust mount was separate, so when you loosen the tranny mount, the exhaust hanger isn't a problem.

You need mount # 2570.
It's weird, but the 2001 xj mount is listed under a 1998 xj with 4wd, and a 4 cylinder motor.

I went with the daystar 3" on my 96. I hated my stock seats before, but now I really hate them--know that there will be more vibes at idle. It is good knowing that with the MOREs and the daystar that the engine and tranny are anchored and the exhaust will be less likely to be stressed. It also is nice to have the faster throttle response instead of engine/tranny twisting first(on/off throttle transitions are smoother). I take it master turner wouldn't like my XJ(haven't read the thread where that sig came from). . .

I also have changed my trans mount with out taking the RC crossmember off. Mine is the older version though and doesn't have the raised X member.

Is the 3" daystar Trans mount taller that a stock rubber mount? I guess i'm not to sure the hight of the stock rubber mount is why i ask. RC older X member has a 1" drop and would like to raise it back up with out pulling the whole damn thing apart to fab something up.
