I am working on a project at the house and picked up one of the Harbor Freight cheap 1" water pumps. The thing is supposed to pump 330 gph. I want to cut that back. I want something like 60 to 100 gph. Would a rheostat work for a pump? What would work without spending too much?

I come up with ideas and research them and read and read untill I just have to try it. I am going to "try" to heat my basement using a compost pile. I have 600' of 1/2 black plastic pipe ran through a LARGE compost pile. I then have it ran into the basement into a 55 gallon barrel. If I can heat the barrel up to 120 I will then try to run a radiator off of it. If it doesn't work I'll scrap it, at least untill I build another compost pile. I just need to slow the pump down a bit to give the water a chance to heat up. My other pile has been holding 120 to 160 for a month now. I'm wating for my new pile to heat up, just finished it yesterday.
