Hi guys. A friend of mine that I work with has a 99 Durango with a auto tranny. Long story short...his tranny is all messed up. Took it to amco and they want 2800 to fix it! Well I found a used tranny online with 14k miles on it for $200...and I'd really like to help him out with fixing it. Here's the problem...I've never removed/installed a tranny before. I've swapped a couple engine/tranny combos (civics, rx7's) but never a durango. Is this a tough install? Can I do this in a weekend with basic hand tools, a few jacks and a Haynes manual? Thanks for your help.

In a driveway or on a lift ?
Floor jacks or tranny jack. probably use 6 jackstands. 4wd or 2wd ?
disconnect driveshaft, remove.
Remove crossmember and support tranny on tranny jack.
Undo linkages and tranny cooler hoses, remove dipstick.
Start loosening bolts
Start moving the tranny back, once the spline shaft is clear start lowering the tranny then wheel it out. Reverse to reinstall.
Might have to remove part of the exhaust system, don't know on a durango.
I'd spend the money and order a factory service manual for it, can't be much more than we spend on our jeeps...
