"How to get the crazy stuff past the DMV.." Why?

Whats the deal with people having to worry about the DMV carring about the mods to their rigs?
I mean other than all the stuff that makes it street legal and passing smog of course.
I don't think any body at the DMV has even taken a glance at my rig.

I think this is where this goes since if you did some/any of the stuff in the section this question might apply to you. (mod's feel free to move it to a more proper place if there is one)

alot of east coast states have inspections which only allow certain amount of lift and tires etc, looks like your in cali which doesnt have them.

Well that explains it, thanks!

ya hes right i know in rhode island(or maine) you cant modify your vehicles suspension at all.

oh by the way this thread should have gone in non tech

Then there's Alabama, where we have no inspection... once it's registered, as long as it's never "totalled" in an accident, and you keep the registration current, you're OK. That's why you see so many rail buggies on the road with a valid license plate on them in AL! Somewhere on that buggy is the Dash VIN # of a bug that was never "totalled"!!

So we don't have to worry about anything!

I know in ohio we haveno inspection but you get some cops that have power issues and like to make life interesting. when i used to build full-size trucks I ad numerous run ins with local officers that did not know laws themselves but wanted to give me a hard time. just do the research and its easy to beat the system.

I moved from Calif to Utah last summer, I have a 4x4 Ranger that passed Cali emissions, but won't pass Utah safety inspection. Whats weird is that if I comply with Utah vehicle code, it still might not pass safety. This just doesn't make sense. But at least (for now) where I live is a non-emissions check county!

In Cali, you are supposed to run your vehicle past the BAR (Bureau of Auto Repair) "Referee" when you make substantial alterations to your vehicle. But I know this is largely ignored, except when swapping engines and other stuff that doesn't pass the smog check visual inspections.
