how to do Dakota leaf springs

I found full packs for a little over $200... you found any better deals out there?

$200? are they brand new? Not many yards around here. (the price they quote me are always higher than what I see people buying stuff for at their yard) And I still only paid $70 for both full spring packs.

the page I linked to above says that a stock XJ sits 6 inches bottom of frame to top of axle.

Mine wasn't quite 9 before now is 11ish.

I picked up a set this morning for $100 ... I thought that was reasonable for them. Still saves me a couple of hundred over buying a new set and having them shipped in. I'm not sure they are the "correct" springs, but they look to be a great shape ... no stress bends and plenty of arch, plus the pads and clamps are all intact. Going to take them apart this afternoon and clean them up. Stopped at John Deere on the way home and bought a couple of cans of slip paint to coat them with. Will install them when I'm done regearing and locking the 8.8 and ready to put it in.

PS: Going to pick up a 3/8" Cobalt drill bit to drill out the main leaf. Will use a 3/8" spring pack bolt to put the packs together with.

I was told by the guy at the yard that 96 down were the same springs 4x4 or 2x4. Just that the 4x4 was soa and 2x4 sua. I think that there could be small differences in some but not that most would notice. So as long as the look like there is life left in them, then they should work for you. Good luck. Let me know how you make out with drilling that hole. I will go that route if I get around to it. Probably when the 9" goes under.

I just finished puting mine together but havent installed them on my jeep yet. I used 96 2wd dakota packs that I got for $50.00 from the lokal yard. the shackles are about 2 inchs longer and should bolt up fine. I drilled my xj main spring and grinded the head of the center pin so it will fit in the axle perch. I cut the second spring about 2 inch and the rest fit fine.

I found 4.5" leafs at Rusty's for $209. I think I'll just go this way.
