Depends, are we talking about a Shetland or a Lipizzaner?

Oh, and $2.65/gallon here today for 87. Seems to have held this price for the last day or two, surprisingly.

Finally checked in town (haven't had a rig up here to put gas in all semester). Most places around here are low $2.20's area, but one place is holding at $2.17 right now.

starting to see a drop, it's now at $2.08...:bs:

Okay, now I'm pissed... $2.67/gallon for 87-octane tonight after the prices had been steadily falling for a week.

As an exercise, let's see what the base cost of a gallon is in different states. For this part of California, you caluclate it thusly:

- Subtract sales tax (in L.A. County, it's 8.25%). Do this first, since the sales tax is usually levied *after* the state and federal taxes have been added in.

- Subtract the state tax of 18c/gallon; other states will likely have a different number for this.

- Subtract the federal tax of 18c/gallon - this one's a constant, so use this figure.

Therefore, for Californians resident in L.A., we have:

$2.67 / 1.0825 = $2.47 (rounding up to the nearest penny in all cases)

$2.47 - 18c = $2.29

$2.29 - 18c = $2.11 - Oil company net

Expressed as a percentage, $2.11 is 79% of the price of a $2.67 gallon of gas. That's what's going back to the oil companies before taxes.

Obviously, these numbers can change depending on local prices and state and sales taxes - but it would be interesting to see if that 79% number holds relatively stationary between states.

$2.04 Sunday. That's after 40-some cents in taxes of course. Also after a ten-cent savings for spending $100 at King Soopers last month, and another three-cents for being a grocery member there...would have been $2.17 so everything I save helps...

i saw 3.32 in lake havasu az. and kept track as i headed north . 2.32 in vegas. 2.20 in St george UT. 2.20 in ogden UT. 2.37 in pocatello ID. 2.60 in Idaho falls. and finaly 2.27 here in dillon. oh yeah and this go's out to presidant bush "oil shortage my @$$ you have been importing over 80,000 barrels to texas ever month from this iraq crap." we all know why you crashed them planes into the towers jerk off. well i got news for you. oil is no longer power. so give it up. your not in texas anymore. ......xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I went to a swap-meet this past weekend in Middletown OH....and about 20 miles before I got to Middletown.....I bought gas for $1.98 ! I'm not sure of the little town's name though....I never did see a sign...and we ended up taking a different route home. It's still $2.15-$2.18 around me though.
