I agree, there is a point where it takes more energy to extract the resource than the benefit received from the resource. It just isn't feasible now to extract the resources. I honestly think that we will be seeing $3.00 per gallon national average for gas before the summer. Here is an interesting read. The first few pages are good, the last are unrealistic in my opinion. Just some food for thought.

Gas in a city close by me (Richmond) went from $2.13 a gallon....to $2.39 a gallon....overnight and at several gas stations too. These kind of spikes in prices reminds me of all the incidents of "price gouging" that have been documented throughout the U.S. Many gas companies/vendors had to offer monies back in settlements after being brought to the right offices attention. I can think of several instances in Indianapolis a few years back....I'd have to research it to get the particulars on it.

Gas companies are always best known for "gouging" around or just before high traffic holidays and such. I wonder what reasons they could possibly have for these repeated $ .10, .15, .20 and even $ .26 cent price jumps such as the one that I've just witnessed?

I truly believe that a nationwide "slow down" or "stoppage" of consumption is in order. Sometimes, the public just has to say "ENOUGH"! It may not help matters a bit.....but it would make ME feel a hell of alot better to know that we got into their "pockets" for a change!

$2.61 for regular on base here this afternoon. Heard a news report it went over $3.00 in Big Sur, CA today.

Don't know if it is correct, but read somewhere the gas companies are making 300 BILLION in profit....you dont need that much in 100 lifetimes.

I've saw 2.60 here in Vegas and just heard a report that our tanks (big storage facility by Nellis AFB) our running dry! Any one know where I can get a Mad Max outfit and a sawed browning 12 ga. pump?

You do if the richest 5% of the population own all your stock and they can't make any money anywhere else. I'd love to get an explaination of how a $5 per barrel price increase has and almost immeadiate effect on the price of the local gas stations gas thats in the ground tanks. I think there are alot of people in the gas subsystem from when it leaves the refinery till it hits the gas storeage tank in the ground that each tag on their .01 and .02 cents hoping no one will notice and if someone does they probably point their fingers back to the tankers bringing the crude in. Pennsylvania used to have a gas price breakdown at every island in every station, it was required by law. People started getting wise to the state increasing taxes on a gallon of gas and the state passed a mandate that required the stations to remove them for 'safety reasons' [they were distracting from the business of pumping gas or some such nonsense] they just do not want it easy for voters to have it held up in front of them, if you want to know you need to work for it now.
 
See, people just need to be a bit more organized and form a decent group with some clout that can have an effect.

I cant stand that they say "Flagstaff is out of the way for our trucks" when we hvae TWO major interstates running through town.

It is complete BS....maybe the oil execs need to learn to live on 1 billion profit.

I know it would probably never happen but, if every Trucker in the US would park there trucks and not deliver anything except for medicine for 24 to 48 hours, or until this BS would go away, i think something would have to happen. Gonna have to park the Jeep and get a moped! i can only get about 95 miles out of half a tank of gas. Just added 2 oz of acetone to 17 gallons of gas, @ $40.00 fill up. :mad:
 
man, if i owned my mack, i WOULD park it, lets see how long a city can go without their mail. oh yeah, to fill the rig almost $350

oh well, you don't think the store owners jack the price more then they need to? this one place on the drive was $2.21, and the place 2 blocks away was $2.11, so now, the first place was like "oops" so now it's at $2.12, so don't think these store owners don't have room to play.

Actually those threats worked to an extent, twice, you better believe that the accountants are sensitive to that kind of stuff as are the marketing people, public relations, etc. I know this for a fact because a relative was very very high up in mobil and over dinner it came up a few times in the conversation, the executives were nervous, mainly about where to store the oil that was coming in and how much it would cost keeping a tanker berthed waiting to offload. A week of everybody prepping for it and buying all the groceries for a week and then just spending a few days working around the house or from home if you have that option, would have a big effect. As of now it's a tie for whose in first place for most despicable, lawyers or oil companies. :laugh3:
It would also put a big dent in consumption just to stop driving on weekends, again it would require pre-planning for trips to the hardware store to get materials for the weekend projects but it is doable.
I have been doing cold calls for the past couple of weeks to drum up more business and I gotta say it really sucks, that extra $50 a week I'm spending on gas is no joke. One customer already had to back out of a systems upgrade, 10 PC's and a server due to his fuel bills which for his trucks has gone up over $2500 a WEEK this month alone...
I'm really tempted to go buy one of those 250 gallon fuel tanks that normally hold heating oil and start filling it 10-20 gallons at a time with my blitz cans everytime I go out especially if it's going to go up .10-.25 a gallon every couple of days.
