We need a witch hunt started up in washington, the threat of which back in the 70's brought gas prices down overnite. Gonna have a cascade effect soon, I've already had to cut eating out, movies, buying extras. Unlike europe this countrys economy is gas and diesel based. I've had to raise my hourly rates and spend an additonal $50 a week on average per week on fuel. The oil industry is making more profit than they ever have in their history, profits are up over 300% at mobil/exxon. Guess it also might be a side effect of low interest rates and a somewhat poor stock market, the billionaires and investment people had to find some way to make money, gas is the lifeblood of the U.S., something people can't do without so they went there. The China excuse does not hold water that they are buying it all up and driving up prices.
I remember flying P3 Orions out of a NAS back in the 70's and seeing tankers anchored off the coast, 50-100mi out, parked, just waiting for the price per barrel to go up before pulling into the delaware to off load.

$2.71 a gallon here for reg. Though we typically run about 30 - 40 more per gallon due to our remoteness....
 
Southern CT. As of yesterday (4 April) regular was running $2.19 to $2.25 per gallon. I expect it to be a penny or two higher today.

I've been back from Chile for two weeks, and the price has been rising at very close to a penny per day since I've been back.

There is no rhyme or reason to it other than manipulation. Prices in Chile are a lot higher -- gasoline was selling for about 87 cents per litre there, or $3.48 per gallon. But around here diesel fuel is going for $2.50 per gallon (about 15% hugher than regular gasoline), and in Chile diesel was selling for around $3.10 per gallon -- considerably cheaper than regular gasoline. I don't pretend to know which country is manipulating (maybe both are), but if diesel is much cheaper than gasoline there and more expensive here, something is going on other than straight cost-of-production plus mark-up.
 
Gas here ranges from 2.23 to 2.35 for 87 octane, 2.42 to 2.58 for 89 octane, and 2.64 to 2.97 for 91 octane. The news channels here said that triple A says that by Memorial weekend that gas around here could hit fifty cents more per gallon. This sucks for us wheelers around here who have to travel eighty miles to go trail riding. I trailer my jeep and with my wife bringing her car that makes for three vehicles to put gas in. Better start saving more money just to pay for the gas. I run 91 octane in all my vehicles so this will be an expensive weekend.
 
In DC, I think it was 2.30 or so.
Around Northern VA it's depending on what neighborhood you're in, about 2.19.

Gas on military bases is normally the same or a bit less, but reacts slower to price changes due to how they purchase their fuel from suppliers. So for a while, in this last jump, we had it good, but now the on-base prices are up there with the civilians.


I suppose once Iraq is really pumping out the oil, things will go back down. But that may be a while.

It'll go up in May/June due to that thing they do at refineries every spring (read about it in the paper, some kind of change over cycle)

We need a NATIONAL gas out week... that would get the govts attention and I mean shut everything down except emergency services. I'm just amazed the truckers have been so quiet over this, the independents and owner operators HAVE to be hurting, gas and diesel HAVE doubled since last year in this area, two years ago when I was commuting to NJ I was paying between .89 and .99 a gallon. Did not mind $15-18 every fill up but $30-40 is bad news and if it hits $3 a gallon thats $60 for a fill up....
 
many of the pundits claim, due to american wealth (in general) there won't be much public outcry until about $3.00 a gallon

of course, if you are like many folks who drive 30+ miles one way to work so you can afford a house in the burbs, it's allready time to get pissed off... heh

thank God, I have a 13 mile round trip every day
 
As you may have heard, Gas (petrol) is about $6 a gallon here. So you can only imagine the money it cost me to drive the newly bought FSJ 119 miles back home last Sunday. With the f'ed up 2150 carb i was getting around 2.6mpg!!!! I figure about $216.
 
$2.19 for 89 in Alabama and we are usually close to last on the list. This is getting rediculous, heard it will be $3.00 a gallon by summer, the way its going it will be atleast that.
 
Just filled up for $2.49 a gallon for regular unleaded (wtf!!!!) Kind of makes me wish my xj was closer to stock, it used to get pretty good gas mileage.

I guess alot dont realize that in the US our govt is already subsudizing our at pump costs to the tune of 30% or more. Otherwise we would be paying over 3.50 a gallon now.

Thats why i'm glad we found a very nice '94 Xj with a propane conversion. Propane costs about the same as US gas. Its a great feeling filling up for less than half the cost of gas. Makes me grin every time i leave the station! ;)
 
DC metro area I can get it for $2.26/gal(89 oct) but I have seen it as high as $2.61 for 89...

What are you going to do? Maybe less beer? Wait that is blasphemy.

Lets see if I got this right:

current price per barrel of crude is 55.00 That is a net cost of crude of 1.00 per gallon. refining costs? percentage of waste? transportation costs?

I would bet the cost to produce the gas we use at teh pump is higher than we actually pay
