How long will XJ's be DD's?

This is why I bought my civic. After I factor car payment, insurance, and fuel, it costs me about $20 a month to own. I was using 2-3 tanks a gas per week in the XJ and I use 2-3 tanks a month in the civic.

I don't want to call you a liar, but that just seems really hard to figure...

Even if your XJ only got twelve, you'd have to get 48 out of the civic to go from 2-3/wk to 2-3/mo.

But I guess if you're driving 600-700 miles a week (!!!), it would make sense to park the rig.

I drive mine every day. Work Sun-Fri, and to take her out on Sat. 250 miles a week, for ~$75.

I park the SuperDuty (which would cost about the same, with diesel at $4.80) and my old Olds Cutlass, which would probably do a little better.

I really love driving the XJ, and at 25 or 30 cents a mile, it's more than worth it to me.

Your mileage, of course, may vary...

As long as my daily commute is only 5 miles round trip 4 days a week I'll probably keep the XJ for a long time. Right now it's costing me about 75 bucks to put gas in it every 6 weeks... 2 bucks a day is tough, but I think I can handle it a bit longer.

Unless I find something I like for the right price or I can steal MY car back from the wife, then the XJ will be retired from DD duty.

DD for me only means a 3 day work week. I drive about 2.5 miles round trip to and from the garage where I keep my work van. But I started using my beater once a week. It's a 92 buick w/3800 and gets way better mpg than my xj. We cut down the work week to save on gas and makes for a better week end. Xj is only getting about 16mpg, but much better on long trips on hywy. Looking for an 87-88 944 since 2 kids are out of college and the houseand two to go(jr and senor year) . (44's are rated at 27 hywy and people report higher if you stay out of the pedal. But not planning on ever getting rid of xj.

still driving mine and plan to keep driving it.

last trip i took on the freeway i averaged 22 MPG for my bone stock 88. not to bad

So here is how it sits. Im 17 and currently go through $80 worth of gas a week! Its killing my wallet, but will I stop. HELL NO. I would not trade my Jeep for any rice burning import gasmizer thing. I like to enjoy driving and love what I drive. And gas here is $4.30 something :(

I don't know how but I averaged 22 mpg going down to Carlisle, PA from MA.

I'm sure coasting in N downhills helped a lot lol. But there were just as many climbs as descents.
