How about a ride at Gulches sometime soon?

Let's get a group together and go take a ride at Gulches! I haven't been in a very long time, so I'm sure some of you guys would be glad to show me around the place to get re-acclimated with the layout. Their schedule of events are:

Gulches First Ever JK Experience
March 15th, 2014

Gulches Mega 4x4 Challenge with a Twisat
April 5th, 2014

CMD and Memorial Day Weekend Celebration
May 23rd - 26th, 2014

Gulches Forth of July Celebration
July 4th - 6th

I'm sure we can all come up with a date that works for the majority of us sometime in between those dates, but we'll also have to set an alternate date in case Skip closes the park for inclement weather. I'm hoping we can go sometime within the next 30-45 days.

What do you say? What's a good date for you to join in?

I was thinking June, first weekend? I'll be working on the Jeep most up until my clubs trip to Windrock in late May. Unless i break something at Windrock, the Jeep hopefully wont need anything before the Crawl in July.

I dont have a big list of stuff i want to do, just really need the time to do it:

Swap tranny cooler and install PS cooler
Install Corbeaus
Front stiffners
Gas tank relocation
New steering (dont know what im doing with that quite yet)
Bedline the interior
Steering box brace- I have the MORE one waiting to go on.

I'd like to drive the XJ to Gulches without trailering, so i probably wouldnt beat on it TOO hard. Trails like TNT, Death Valley, Heartbreaker, and Redneck Ravine stick out in my head right now... I really want to hit Shipwreck, but i'll have to look at the rocks and see how the Jeep and I feel on that day.

Well, maybe we could do a semi-official "Gulches~Harlan Shakedown Run" in June for those that want to do that, but I'd prefer to ride a little sooner. Nothing says that we can't do both rides! Way back when I was the SE event coordinator (think 10+ years ago lol) I tried to get a group together at least once per month for a ride. It didn't matter if 20 people showed up, or just 2, we rode on a regular basis as a group somewhere. Some of the places we rode on then are gone now, but there are new places to ride that I may not know about now.

I haven't been back in the group very long now and I don't want to step on any toes by trying to get some rides going. I don't even know how often you guys get together and ride. I know that times are different and the economy still isn't the best for everyone, but I'd like to get back to a level of activity close to that again with fellow XJ'ers even if it's just a small forest service area that's convenient for everyone to travel to. It's all about the camaraderie and just getting out there on a trail that makes this sport fun for me.

With that being said, how does mid to late April sound to anyone?

Might could work for me too for both... Maybe both. My spring break is the first week of April and I was going to knock out a lot then.

I'm always down to ride! My club (Ga trail riders-feel free to join up, Mike) tries to ride once a month, normally I try to go with them depending on where it is. I'm the only active XJer so another would be nice or with a NAXJA group.

I was registered on that site a long while back. Had an "issue" with one of the members there so I just left and haven't been back. Life's too short for that kind of stuff lol

Maybe I'll go to Aiken with the heep that weekend and meet you guys up there. Mike you talking about camping there?

It would probably just be a day trip for us, Glenn. We aren't too far away. Towing, we could probably be there in around 2-1/2 hours.

I won't rule out camping though.

Yea the rent's house is about 1.5 - 2 hours from Gulches. I could go there Friday night and be at Gulches Saturday for a day trip. I can also get there form here in about 3 hours. Keep me posted and I'll shot to make this. My goal this yes is to wheel more!

That's my goal every year...

Don't forget. You guys are welcome to camp out in my yard if you don't want to fork out the moolaa for camping. I'm 22 miles from Gulches.
