Just put "Houblonmonstre Tripel IPA" (Northern Brewer extract kit) in the carboy. Anyone tried this recipe? Thoughts?

That's one of their most recent special kits, not normally in their catalog. As big of a beer as it is, I doubt anyone has it ready to drink yet, so you'll just have to go by their description 
I'm brewing a regular Belgian Wit today, the Houblonmonstre I'll probably brew later in the week.

I ordered NB's Saison kit. I'm going to pour it right in the carboy on the Houblonmonstre yeast after I move it to the secondary. Ever tried the Saison?
I have not had a beer yet that wasn't pretty good from them.

Almost done with the freezer conversion. The collar is built, and the shanks are mounted. I'm short one piece of gas line tubing, and one gas fitting.
I just finished cleaning up after transferring the Kolsch into the keg. Gonna try for a half-fast carb, and chill it tomorrow night, so it'll be ready on Friday.
Next batch will be a dunkelweizen.

Just got back from my beer making lesson, easier than I though it would be. Sucks having to wait all those weeks to drink it though.

If you keg, and use a Co2 setup to force carb, some of the basic brews can be quite drinkable in as little as 2 weeks.
But if you brew regularly, you will always have beer to drink while you wait.

Rich, it's *WELL* worth the wait. And waiting there will be.
I brew a bourbon barrel porter every year. I'll brew it in August, it'll be ready to drink around the end of the year.
John has it right. That's why I built a 4 tap chest freezer conversion. The Kolsch is running, and I've got a cream ale and a dunkelweizen that I'm going to start this weekend.

One upside is I need to go buy a couple of cases of Groslch [sp?] so I can get those nifty resealable bottles Unless someone makes them empty. All new to me, I just know I don't want to bother with the metal bottle caps and that crimper.

thanks for the link, almost jumped on it till I saw the shipping disclaimer, shipping those bottles is a killer, guess I'll just have to bite the bullet empty some new ones and save on shipping

Brewed the Houblonmonstre yesterday morning. Got a good starter going from a 6 year old can of Mr Beer mix, and it had the 'monstre fermenting good last night, and threatening to blow off the airlock today.
The wit from last week is about ready for secondary, my hopped up American lager could be kegged, and I got my World Wide lager and Petite Saison kits today.
Got a couple more things to do to the jeeps, then I'll get busy on the all grain setup.

I've been buying from Northern Brewer for the last couple of years. It's really *NOT* a good thing that the retail store is only a few minutes off my commute home. And their will-call counter is minutes from my office.
I picked up a cream ale kit from Midwest Supplies last Friday, and brewed it on Sunday. I think I'll stick to kits from NB. For starters, the specialty grains in the Midwest kit were crushed before the kit was put on the shelf. The muslin bag was a little on the small side. I don't need the priming sugar. I also usually use Wyeast Activator yeast, and Midwest includes a dry yeast packet in the kit. I'm reasonably sure it'll turn out good, but I'm happier with the kits from NB.
One other thing to note (and this isn't a ding on Midwest.) When I smacked the Wyeast packet on Sunday, I ruptured the outer envelope! The heat seal apparently was a little marginal, and I lost probably a teaspoon of yeast. The fermentation did take a little longer to get started, but the fermentation lock was bubbly merrily away the next morning.

Just curious as to where yours is at?
Mine has been in primary more than two weeks, and I'm still getting an airlock bubble every 16-17 seconds...
Here's something else to consider for home taps. I bought 4 Perlick 425 forward seal taps.
Wow.
Yeah, I know. They're new. Damn, do they work smoothly, and almost no dripping. 2 weeks after starting, and the tap will still nicely with nothing more than a single finger.
