Hit & Run, What a Great Neighbor!

I mean that both seriously and very sarcastically...

At about 2:30 this morning some sort of noise woke me up. I wasn't quite sure what I heard 'cause I was sound asleep, so I looked all through the house, checked on the kid and pets, looked in the garage, etc. and made sure everything was fine. Having no idea what it was, I went back to bed.

I found out what it was about an hour later when I was woken up again by someone ringing my doorbell and pounding on my door. "Who the hell is at my door at 3:30 in the morning!??!" I'm thinking. It was the police and the first thing they ask is, "Sir, is that your Jeep out front?" Then I look past him and see three cruisers out front. Oh crap!

Turns out one of my neighbors across the street backed out of his driveway, into and down the side of my Jeep. Instead of bothering to own up to it, he pulled his car back into his garage and closed it up in an attempt to hide it away. Thankfully another neighbor a couple houses down was still up and heard that lovely screeching metal sound (definitely the sound that woke me up the first time) and ran out in time to see the guy pulling away from my Jeep and into his garage. He called the police.

When the police went to question the neighbor that hit my Jeep he got all belligerent (he was trashed) and they ended up arresting him and taking him to jail. I've lived across the street from this guy for 3 years, but never met him. I don't think he speaks English so I've never been inclined to. :dunno:

Thankfully the damage isn't too bad... this is what I'm left with:

The guy has insurance, but it seems a bit shady. I called to make a claim this morning and they're giving me the run around. Call this number, no call that number, please leave a message and someone will get back to you... it's some unknown hole-in-the-wall place. I'm not counting on getting a dime. :gee:

Like those old PACE sauce commercials.............."get a rope!" :hang:

That sucks in a whole lot of ways, simply for the fact now you have to deal with his insurance company cause from what it sounded like you do not have full coverage on the XJ and he lives across the street from you, Wonderful.

We had a neighbor that went ballistic on all of us in these apartments years back because we restrained his 13 year waiting for the police to show up cause we caught him breaking into a car trying to steal a stereo. It didn't end well. For months having to call the police because he was making a fool of himself and threatening everyone in the building.

.........maybe he will return sober and apologize to you?

Sucks dude............just lie and say it was rock rash...........

wow. If i were you, i'd go over to the Neighbor who called the police, and have a beer with'em!

might have been worse if your jeep wasn't lifted. on a similar note, a while ago some butthole at a party i was at backed into my front bumper leaving a reasonably sized dent in it. his insurance was a joke and nothing but an uphill battle. said the hell with this and got a bumper at a jy for 10 usd. what a crappy neighbor.

Actually, the thing isn't quite paid off yet so I've got to carry full covereage - I just don't want to front the deductible if I don't have to.

I was joking with the cops that I was going to tell everyone I did that on a trail.

...and he's a young kid that drinks plenty of it! I may just do that one of these nights.

If that damage happened on the trail, you'd be proud and have a good story.

Dang straight I would! :D

That's the kinda s#!t that has me convinced to find 100+ acres in southern CO. When I get moved out there I'm gonna try and stay near Rush or Calhan.

and you'll make an off road park for NAXJA folk only on that 100 acres right?

sucks about your jeep man. but atleast you know where the guy lives. haha. i'd probably go over to his house every day giving him shit untill he gets it taken care of.

At this point, call YOUR insurance agent, and see if you can get it covered through subrogation. Yes, you'll have to cover your deductible up front, but your insurance company will have bigger and more dogs than you can come up with.

It's not just the shady insurance companies that pull that nonsense. Allstate tried it with me 10 years ago.

What a douche hahaha. Thank God for your other neighbor eh??? Glad its not too bad.

X2 Atleast you have one good neighbor!! :yelclap:
Damn drunks and a non English speaking Jackass to boot!!!!:looser:
You could always use his car to test you suspension..............:gee:

I've been a little concerned about that...

So, a week of trying to reach this guys shady insurance company has gone by with no calls back or anything. This is going just the way I thought it would so far. On Monday I'm calling my insurance company and I'll let them run with it. :dunno:

Sorry to hear that!! Does not supprise me though, seeing how the bonehead does not speak English and tried to get away with damaging your Jeep......:firedevil

Ironically, I have a set of AJ's super rails sitting in my garage! If I had them installed the guy would've just glanced off of those instead of my doors... Oh well.

I hear ya, that insurance money could buy some more stuff for the Jeep. I'm not holding out much hope of getting it though.

I feel your pain, but at least your's is fixable.

Some dumbass kid nearly killed me on I-25 a couple years ago, and took off. The great denver police did nothing.

They probably asked you if you got his license plate number..........like you are going to remember that in the seconds it took for him to hit you then drive off during your initial shock factor.

I had a guy come to a dead stop in front of me as I was pulling to the right lane cause I had an officer behind me pulling me over for speeding. I managed to avoid hitting the guy but the police man rear ended me, the the car took off. The police man claimed he did not see the car that stopped in front of me and asked if I got the license plate number besides the vehicle description. "Like ya, I had time to get it, I always think about that and have a paper and pen ready."

That sucks Jawa now you have to pay your deductable?
