im poised to pull the trigger, i do not want it outside the heep at all, will a 48" work for me? obviously it will store easier than a 60", 3.5 lift and 33's with NO intention to go higher?

48" is fine. 60" can be a bitch to store and gets sketchy once you start lifting towards 48" anyway. if you need to get a tire off the ground, its best to ratchet strap the axle to your chassis somewhere before you do it anyway. less lifting=less sketchy.
