Ok I have had my 89 xj for about 4 months or so.
I havn't any problems with it untill I got here suck in a mud hole.Well I fixed all that I screwed up on it.
Im not sure if my motor has had a rebuild or if it the orignal one.Where can I look on the motor to see if its the original one.The reson I am asking this is because the odometer is saying well about 243,000 give a take a few.Now the other question I am thinking of updating the motor to a newer one how new can I go. What years will work in my 89 XJ oh it is a 5 speed as well.

Depends on how much adapting you want to go with.... I'm not an expert, but if you go say..96 (which I did), might want to upgrade the cooling system. Brake boosters and the like, as well. If you have the work done, make sure they know both old and new systems.... There's been a lot of threads that can be searched here, because it's a common event on higher milage vehicles. I like my 96..just didn't do the research and it caught me off guard, things that had changed thru the years.. Might want to ask XJeeper, he's got an '89 like we do. There were changes in things like the fuel rails and such, that took some fab'ing to work out..Normally, tis a trade off between trying to get low miles..and cost..and the pain in the butt factor.
