Help me start a college off road club!

Hello all, Im looking into starting an off road club/organization here at Coastal Carolina University. Other than reading about and joining other organizations I know nothing about starting an organization of this kind. My school has a car club which really is just a bunch of kooks with riced out p.o.s. cars mostly. I have noticed a lot of trucks and jeeps this year and would like to get something going here on campus. We are relatively close to some decent wheeling (Gulches, Uwharrie, and some smaller local places) as well as the beach. What do I need to incorporate into a club? Community projects, campus promotion, sponsors? Lets hear what ya have to say!

Check with your school's student activities department, they should be able to give you all the info to successfully start up a club.

Yup, your school should be able to give you all that information. Every school is different and has different requirements.

I have read over the schools guidelines and necessities but Im looking for more information specific to off road organizations. Like what would the club member want out of an off road club?

Your kids, what more do you want? Jeeps and trails...

Set up regular M&Gs to talk about club issues: where and when to go wheelin, fundraisers for getting into private parks, etc...

make some shirts too look cool, get chicks, beer, and wheel. (Some of those not at the same time :D)

Everyone wants something different out of an offroad club. Some just want to wheel, others want to hold meetings, non-wheeling events etc.

Get it set up through the school, hold a preliminary meeting and ask the people that show up what they want.

For us....we started a 4x4 club last spring. Since there's a mustang club, and a horsepower club (all the ricers), we thought why not a 4x4 club. To get things started we made up a bunch of flyers and posted them around campus.....it got off to a slow start but towards the end of the semester it was getting to be a decent size. All kinds of 4x4's too...XJ's, TJ's, couple ZJ's and a WJ...a couple K5 Blazers, few old Chevy trucks.....open to anything with a real 4x4.

Getting ready to have our first meeting of the semester this Friday as a matter of fact. We usually meet up in one of the parking lots on the edge of campus, talk Jeeps and Trucks for an hour or so...then sometimes grab a bite to eat or hit the powerline trail thats right behind campus. A few of the members who obviously have more time and money than the rest make several trips to Uwharrie every couple of months too.

So I would start by sending out flyers.....as people show up, get e-mail addresses and start a mailing list, as well as a Facebook group or something since most people are on that anyways. Both the e-mail list and Facebook group work well for us for keeping in touch.

Exactly what Im looking for UNCC, thanks! Here at Coastal I cannot start passing out flyers until we are approved by campus but I was thinking about making flyers and leaving them on jeeps and trucks aroung campus to get an idea of the interest. Also an unofficial facebook group for it to get people talking and interested.
