Help me $H!T or get off the pot w/ the XJ

The truck used to be my father in law's, then my brother in law's. BIL was going to sell it after the #2 conn rod took a dive, wife didn't want to see it go. She asked if I'd be willing / interested in getting it back on the road since she couldn't bear to see it leave. I said "Well, it's not a great time for it financially but sure" so we've got a 1957 truck with an LS swap that demands all of my garage time and more. I'll admit - it snowballed some from "on the road" to "LS swap". That's why I'm hesitant to commit time / money to sprucing up the XJ - I'm married to a project already.
That being said, fixing up the XJ will take time that's in short supply and not a whole ton less money than a WJ. Shrug. I think my mind is made up, just waiting on a decent offer on the XJ.

I cashed in my steel scrap today. Towing with the XJ is not the best time I ever had. I think you'll like having a bigger vehicle.

The Chevy sounds like a keeper.

I decided on an 03 or 04 WJ (so it has the modern car seat attachments) with V8. Everything else was negotiable, depending on what I could find.

Wound up with an 04 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.7, with the Quadra Trac system and tow package on 16" wheels. 118K miles, paid $6,000

After driving it only a few miles, I know I made the right choice (for me). It has more power per pound, an extra gear in the trans, rides much much smoother, it's quiet inside, has a more comfortable cabin and on and on.

That said - I'm a little tempted to keep the XJ now that I won't drive it every day. It's not a dollar-smart decision but the XJ has been good to me and it has a lot of personality.

Assuming you have a good driving record, liability only insurance won't be more than a couple hundred $ a year on the xj. Registration another $100 or so. $300-400 a year to have a back up rig, more aggressive weekend warrior is well worth it IMHO, but we have 2 jeeps and 2 cars between the wife and I.

What Zach said..
