Help for a fellow 4wheeler

A fellow 4wheeler in the New England area could use some help. I'll include, at the end of the article, a link to a forum that has been set up to specifically deal with this situation. More info can be found on the site. They're taking donations, have the remembrance bracelets, things like that. Anything you can do to help will be appreciated.

One of our own needs our help

Shane Beard, infamously known as Campingdad throughout the Four Wheel Drive community, has been stricken with Pancreatic Cancer. Shane has not only been a member of our community, but he has been one of its greatest leaders, especially throughout New England and the Northeast. He has been a long-time Vice President of the Northeast Willy’s Jeep Association, Vice President of the Northeast Association of 4WD Clubs, and also the founder of the Northeast Online Wheelers message board (www.neow.org). Over the past four years, NEOW has grown to be the largest and most active four-wheeling message board in the New England area, with over 1,600 members strong. This man, who always went out of his way to be kind and to help others, now needs our help in return.

Some words from Stephen Gallagher, President of the Northeast Willy’s Jeep Organization (NEWJO):
“Shane has been an integral part of NEWJO:
Serving as the first VP of NEWJO for two consecutive terms until he took over the VP of the Northeast Association of 4wd clubs.
It is because of Shane the first X-mas party for NEWJO happened and because of Shane we have an Adopt-a-road. In the beginging of NEWJO Shane and I would bounce ideas off each other and things got done and we had fun doing it.
Shane is responsible for many of the trails at the Homestead, using his jeep as a sherman tank plowing throught he brush and conquering the old trails before anyone else.

Shane always has encouraging words to new people and has always been willing to listen to others. When I took Shane out on his first trail ride in his Jeep, You could see in his expressions and actions a thirst for more. You could see his compassion for his wife. You could see the dedication and commitment to his family.Shane has always been good to me and the people around him, and Shane will never be forgotten. “

In support of Shane so far, many of us in the community have banded together. His home is in desperate need of repair, with problems such as pipes freezing every winter.

A quote from LouEllen, Shanes Mother:
“ Shane and Vickie both have been wanting to do something modular for some
time. They just couldn't swing it. We know the house very well, it was
bought intending to only live there a year or two. You know what happens to
plans and now 10 years has gone by. It is only sitting on pylons. The water
runs under the house so everything is always damp. ROT!!! The water tank is
ready to fall through the floor. The electrical and plumbing leave alot to
be desired. The furnace in the living room is it. It only works sometimes.”

We even thought of contacting the Television show Extreme Home Makover to help with Shanes cause, but with production and planning 6 months out, Shane might not have 6 months more to wait. We are beginning plans to embark on our own grassroots version of an Extreme Home Makeover with the help of everyone in the northeast four wheeling community. We have big plans, but we have big hearts and a lot of determination. We want to give back to this man and his family what he has given to us over the past many years he has been a leader in our community.

I think the Egg is still going to be raffled off, though I'm sure on that. Haven't finished reading all the info in the threads there. If it is, I'll make sure that tickets are available through me for anyone that wants them.

Grizzley, will there be anything happening about this at the Great American Jeep Rally?

From what I can see Dominick is going to be transporting the Egg down there so it will be on display. Obviously they'll have tickets there also. I think that they're waiting for more wrist bands to come in so those might not be available there.

This is it folks, last day to get the tickets unless you're going to Dominick's in NH tomorrow for the drawing. Awesome rig for $20 and the money goes to a great cause!

Sat., Nov. 5th at Domenic's Auto & Jeep
in Hampstead, NH

Rain or Shine (we will be inside the garage and in a tent outside)!!!

Show up anytime after 12pm, drawing to take place at 5pm.

There will be food served until it runs out - pulled pork, hot dogs, hamburgers, hot and sweet sausages, baked beans, and cole slaw. Cider, soda and coffee will be provided as well.

In order to help with the cost of hosting this event, we are asking folks to bring:
- side dishes (salads, etc)
- hors doeuvres (crackers & cheese, veggie plates, etc)
- desserts (pies, brownies, cakes, anything BUT cookies! TONS of cookies were donated)

The landowner has given permission for us to hold another D-Rock event that afternoon, so bring your rig to try your luck on Domenic’s very own proving grounds!!!

We *may* also have a DJ for our enjoyment.

We *WILL* have:
- Raffle prizes (other than the Egg)
- Egg tickets available for sale (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
- Information on Pancreatic Cancer

This is an event for the whole family. Please find some time in your afternoon to come down!!

OK, it's over and done with in a way but I think that this will live in everyone's hearts for a long time. This was posted by Shane's mom about 3 hours ago:

The entire Beard family would like to "Thank" each and everyone of you that helped in the "EGG" project. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED in deed.

We are so grateful for all the hard work that made this possible. We are still in shock. In the beginning we had our doubts.

We had a great time at the raffle party, great people, good food and wonderful weather. Dom makes a great host.

We hope that Chris in Utah is half the person Shane is and puts the "Egg" to the test. Jacob and I were talking today, he hopes that Chris has as much fun with it as they have.

So God Bless each and everyone of you! Have a Happy Holiday season with your families if we don't see you before.

Love,

The Beard Family

Ric, Jess & Dylan

For all of you who bought tickets or bands or just sent money thank you for helping CD and his family. Preliminary count, and it's very preliminary as there was a lot of ticket selling yesterday and some checks still need to clear, but the amount raised for the family through the raffle was over $50,000.00 :D
