Hello All!

My name is mike, im Active Duty Coast Guard currently finishing AMT school and will be moving the the Humboldt Bay area in about 6 weeks. I'm originally from Massachusetts but spent the last two years on the Southern Oregon Coast, i've come to believe that the west coast is the place for me and had a lot of fun up in the pacific northwest, im very much looking forward to exploring northern california. Im just dropping in to say hello, and hopefully meet some new faces and wheel some new trails. As i said before i have never been in that area and i am currently researching housing, recreation etc...If anyone has any info or tips it would be most appreciated! Thanks again guys, i look forward to meeting some of you.

Mike

P.S. keep an eye out for a silver 2000 xj on 31's and steelies and Oregon plates. Don't be afraid to stop and chat!

Awesome man.

Humboldt is a good spot. We'll have to meet up, Im moving there in august, as Im going to HSU.

Welcome.

I'm in Eureka and this is my XJ

I was born and raised in the area and attended college at Cal Poly, SLO. Moved back to the area because after traveling over the whole state I still think this is the best area to live. Let me know when you get here and we'll do some wheelin'.

I'm glad to see some like minded people! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you guys around the area, and of course try to join in on as many wheeling trips as possible. I was wondering if that area had emissions and vehicle inspections? where i was in oregon did not but being california im expecting them. I'm not worried about my xj but more so my fiance's 88 toyota tercel.

Thanks again guys

Hello. The weater is better here for sure i moved here in 1994 from the midwest and i wouldnt move back thats for sure. As far as emissions California is the worst they dyno the car and also do a visual inspection to make sure all they orignal stuff is still under the hood. But because it migt not have been sold with california emissions i dont know how that works. i had to pay an impact fee when i brought my corvette here from the midwest. The best thing to do is contact the DMV for Cali. Anyway the NAXJA guys here are all great guys. everyone ive met at least. So welcome to Naxja. And look forward to seeing you out on some trails

Humboldt really is amazing.

Check out Clam beach, you can do a little water crossing and drive out on the waveslope.

Oh and tgoff, I'll have to get your number, I'll be heading up soon, my sister and her BF just bought a house in McKlanlyville.

Smog is pretty easy here. Its only required on title transfer and new California registration. No vehicle inspections. The smog shops are pretty easy going compared to the Bay Area. I am going to smog a 87 MJ from Oregon I just bought tomorrow and we'll see how it goes.

As tgoff said, only smog is on transfer of title. No other annual smog.

Humboldt is pretty much like southern Oregon...you'll blend right in. I love it here, and have lived in the area over 15 years now. Keep an eye out for my '98 XJ (Chili Pepper Red) with a Protofab front bumper, and a NAXJA rear window banner.......

My '87 MJ (2.5L) passed smog no problem. Before hand all I did was give it a tune up and changed the oxygen sensor. This is normal stuff I would do anyway after purchasing a used vehicle so I don't think you would have a problem passing smog. I took the MJ to "Eureka Smog and Repair" on Broadway in Eureka.
