Hi all, my name is Gary and i stumbled across this forum a couple of days ago. I have a 97 XJ with a 4.0 and the AW auto bone stock,, intend to keep it that way except ditch the tired 4.0 and swap in a MBZ OM617. I am a marine/equipment mechanic and welder by trade so I'm not running into this blind. Anyways I have a few questions that I will post in the tech forums and hopefully I can be of use and answer diesel questions or whatever else i can be of use for. :dunce:

The family and I spent 2 weeks in Cape Ann last October... Loved it! Boston, Salem, Rockport, what a beautiful place you live in.

Hey Gary, welcome to the club. There's a couple threads in Mod-tec on the -617 swap, although I don't think anyone has gotten as far as putting an engine in an engine bay. You're going to learn that the search function on this forum is a little,.. finicky. But it works after it's own fashion.

Memory says someone had a chunk of aluminum plate carved into a Mercedes engine/Jeep transmission adapter,.. can't find it off the top of my head. maybe someone else can lead you to it.
