Mods, If in wrong please move... Anyhow, I have a pair of Hella 500 spots mounted on my pushbar, approx 4' off the ground. I had been thinking of getting some amber lenses for the snow season this year but have found them discontinued. I am wondering if these covers are anygood. Also wondering how the lens cover would affect light output on a spotlight, And if its even worth coverting them to fog, as the hight they currently reside in is fairly high.

Hella H87988431 Color Shieldz Yellow

for those who might not have seen them...

I can't speak for the shields themselves but I switched to yellow bulbs in my 500's and love it. I won't run normal white bulbs again in them unless I put the colorshields on.

No personal experience with colored lighting, but everything I've read says the yellow tint makes a big difference when you're running in heavy dust/snow/fog etc.

Right now(based on the avatar pic) it looks like the lights are mounted right at eye level for the seated driver. Rather then light color, it might make a bigger difference if you re-mount the lights either higher(above the cab) or lower(below the hood line).

From a personal standpoint: Hella is known for making a quality product(Good products, I have 4000s on my truck, and Zoomy97acr has 500s on his truck great quality product), but I have a real problem buying something where the marketing department intentionally miss-spelled the product name because it's cool or something.

"Shieldz"? Sounds like professional lighting accessories for the ricer crowd,... :looney:

yellow makes a HUGE difference! i love my amber 500s! ill have to pick these up bc i cracked one of my lamps last weekend and i dont want it to break apart.

Im sure moving my lights lower would be beneficial. If anything I would just mount a set of dedicated fogs down low and outboard. Roofing it is of no use as it would be highly illegal for me to use them on the road. I use the spots every night on my ride home from work, farm country, and lots of deer make them very usefull. Im just trying to get the most light options out of them as I can

You could probably flip them on their tabs so they hang upside from the bottom to lower them some.

I have the yellow color shieldz with the clear stone guards over them. I'm also using a 4300k H3C HID kit.
I haven't been caught in any crappy weather, so I can't say how well they actually work.

Hubs, thanks, interesting and informative. Yan, I knew you had them, just hadnt heard anything on their use in snow ect. as previous stated. not interested in shifting my current mounts. i find their current location perfect for picking up deer movement, my main concern.
Weve been taking a lot of road trips to indy lately, and bc of work alot of our drive time is at night. hwy 65 can be a real bear in a snow storm, so I was hoping to score some used amber lenses that I could switch in for said trips. As they are no longer being made I thought I would see if anyone had any experience with these yellow lens covers.
