Well I went run Hell Hole a few weekends ago and had a great time. The trail was short and had a few fun spots along the way. I ran it as a day trip but would have been a great place to spend the weekend.

Here is a shot of the lake from the start of the trail.

Toughest section of the trail.

A good look at the new JCR tail light boxes I won at SierraFest! Thanks JCR

and the new TnT bummper that found it's way over to me from SierraFest!

The recent storms knocked a few trees down and needed to be cleared. I strapped one off the trail and could only get the other about 2/3 the way off the trail, I forgot my axe. I talked to the ranger about it later and was excited to go do some trail maintenance.

The tree had the last word... Should have upgraded to the full quarter panel guards when JCR offered.

Nice report, Josh. The trail damage gives the XJ some character. Nice looking add-ons, too. Let me know if you want to do this again in late spring after the snow melts.

By the way, you didn't run that alone, did you?

I am sure I will be up for it again in late Spring.

And no I was not wheeling alone, I had my dogs with me. :gag:

I was going to preface with a sh-pill about wheeling alone. So here is a list of why I felt safe wheeling alone.

  1. I told several people where I was and when I planned to be back
  2. I gave my wife a deadline to start an emergency plan I laid out for her. including names phone numbers and a map of my route
  3. I know my rig well and have spare parts. of course this does not cover everything
  4. I packed gear to stay the weekend if I had to and checked the forecast for the next several days
  5. I checked into the forest service station in Forest Hill and let them know where I was going and what my plans were
Planning for the wost is always a great way to enjoy a sunny day. Of course reading the thread you know I forgot my axe.

i hope i was on her list of people to call! i was in my XJ all weekend in truckee. i would have driven down with parts and tools to get you josh!

Did you go all the way down to the water line?

You see anyone else on the trail?

Yeah i made it all the way down. There were quite a few hunters in the area, one group camping near the top of the trail.

There was also a group of mostly yotas going down when I was near the top. There was one XJ in the group, anyone here? I didn't talk to them much.

Of course you were, I know you could use any excuse to get out on the trail. Lets start figuring out where to go next spring!
