Heater Box Bolts

Ok so my heater box bolts in the firewall are spinning I only got one of them off. I was able to pull them the box out a little bit but it seems that there is no head of any kind on them. Anyone else had this problem? I would rather not cut them as it seems that there is no way to put new ones in? Oh and yes I have done the PB Blaster

They are actually studs, so there will be no head on them, that screw into the heater box. I had the same problem when I was doing my write-up. One of mine actually broke of the box, thats what made it keep spinning. I ended up grabbing just the end of the stud (straight on) with a pair of vise grips. Then with a wrench undid the nut. Had to loosen, tighten, loosen, tighten, repeat to get the nut to come off right. After all I had 18 years of crap on the threads. Oh and some PB Blaster made it a bit easier. Hope that helps

so once I get the box out, if the bolt stud does come off the box then I will be able to reattach it once the box is out?

yes.

i just replaced a heater core last night with one i pulled at a bone yard.
when i was pulling the heater box at the yard i had a couple of studs do the same to me.
after i pulled the box, i saw that they were just that- studs. so you can just screw them back into the box and all is well.

If the studs just came unscrewed then yes. I had one that was actually broken off the mount on the box(previous owners attempt)

Ok yea I got them out none of them broke :)
What are you guys using to seal the new heater core and the box? All the stuff on mine is a little wasted after 22 years, and the crappy wheaterstripping crap that came with new core just isn't going to do it.

This thread is 75 years old. I encountered a similar problem where two of the bolts or studs were cross-threaded, so I ended up cutting them off with a grinder. I've been searching online to find replacements, but haven't had any luck.

Does anyone know where I can buy those parts or could you please share a link to the part number?
