Woohooo!!
Yesterday was a little dismal. I've been building a 97 four door into a mall crawler. I've been using it as DD but intend on letting my teenage daughters drive it until they finish high school. I replaced the head gasket last weekend. Was getting steam in the exhaust, rough idle, etc, etc, etc...... I changed the oil every couple of days this week looking to get the high moisture content out as soon as possible. As the week progress, each day after the oil change, the oil pressure would drop on my ride home. It would continue to hang around 13psi at idle from there on out and sometimes even at throttle. Yesterday it began running rough again. When I did the head gasket, I did the standards for rough idle, cleaning sensors, cleaned the valve cover, etc. I replaced the standard tune up items.
Well, knowing all that was done, last night I pulled the power for the injectors one at a time. Number one and number three made no change to the idle when pulled. I replaced them with known good ones and number three came back. On inspection of number one, there was antifreeze around the hole where the injector goes into the head. Even after changing, number one didn't come back. Noticed this morning that I'm getting steam in the exhaust again.
So now I'm wondering, cracked head or cracked block? Go to the trouble of replacing the head or start looking for another engine?
Would a compression test tell me whether or not it was the head or block? Anyways, I gotta get the blue jeep finished up before I start on the black 2 door - the one the D44 is going in.
Now what teenager wouldn't want to drive this?
