header leak

Snapple

I have had a header exhaust leak (at firewall bolt missing or broken) seance getting the jeep.
it has not bothered me tell idle started when worm will creeping up to 11-1200 I know that is not right.

How hard is it to replace the gasket and bolt.

Depends how the bolt broke off. If you can get ahold of it you might be able to get it out real easy,if you can't get at it the head will probably have to come off to extract it.

if i had the tools how long would this take at worst case.

also engine has 200k, rear main leaks and blow by. Is it just time to rebuild or do a swap out.

Worst case... You drill it and hit it with an easy out and mess up all the threads and you need to drill it out and put new threads in it and you drill to deep and hit oil.... An it takes 27 weeks.

That's worst case.

Most Likely it will come right out with vicegrips and some PB blast

Or

Drill it and hit it with an easy out.

But with blow by ( witch could be a clogged valve cover vent)
Leaks and 200k

Check compression then make your Decision

Get a long block and do new:
Valve cover gasket
Oil pan gasket
Rear main
Water pump
Oil Adapter O rings
timing cover gasket
Oil pump

Start buying the parts listed as you can.
Then start looking for a motor (I got a low miles one that's kinda in hiding)

To even try and remove the broken bolt, PB Blaster PB Blaster & more PB blaster. Or what ever penetrating spray you like. But start a spraying a few days before you attempted to remove it.

Yes I Agree, but this is a DD (I'm assuming) and its on the block.
Can't really spray it and drive it.

But if you can take a day or half a day and spray the crap out of it every 15 mins before you work on it, and as you Tear in to it

That's your only hope of getting it out with little to no effort

The manifolds ports don't line up,it will probably bolt up and run but won't be right.
To do it right he would have to either do a complete HO swap or modify the HO engine to work with renix sensors which requires changing some stuff and adapting the TB to sweep the tps backwards.

Unless he put his entire top end on the HO block then he would just have to add the knock sensor but this would still require fixing his current issue.

Swapping an HO into a renix XJ is probably more then he wants to tackle

HO? sorry do not know what that is.

Put a diesel in it.

was wondering when you would chime in. the only thing about swapping out diesel is the front axle clearance and cost (well the unknown cost)
Every merc swap i see they talk about how the oil pan is right over the axle housing and with bottoming out they will be trying to be in the same place.

Or is there something i missed. is there anyone that has a merc in a jeep that i can look at or find out what issues they have and fixes the putting it in

All this just over changing a header bolt and a gasket! geeze lol.

Hey guys, i need to change my oil, should i put a ls1 engine in or a 454. =D
