headed back soon...colorado wheelin quest.

hey all

i am still overseas....haha....i am supposed to be headed home soon...*about a week or so* and me and my wife have been talking about heading out to colorado to try and see it this summer

my question about that is we will be driving our '06 Z71 out that way and not takin the jeep ....

just wondering if any of you here in the midwest chapter knew of any trails that would be midly tame to enjoy in a stock full sized pickup..

i have searched around the net here and there and came up with a couple that caught my eye as being able to get up in the mountians and explore a bit but its a new truck and i would rather get some opiinions from some folks who have been on these mountian roads/trails and could tell me which ones to stay away from or which ones are the most fun.

btw me and ac ouple other guys *trying to get them to join too..lol* are headed up to tuttle around juneish...for some camping/drinkin/wheeling fun...none of which will be at the same time mind you..lol

Where do you think you all will be heading? It's tough to go wrong in the Buena Vista area. There's endless options for camping, hiking, fishing and there's tons of roads to explore. You can leave BV and head over Cottonwood Pass. It's paved but changes to washboard dirt at the top. There are tons of forest roads on the way down. Once down, you'll be at Taylor Reservoir and there's oodles of places to explore there (not to mention ridiculous sized trout). One of my favorite drives is to head south on 24 out of BV and then down to Nathrop. You can head up to the tiny town of St. Elmo and then take Tincup Pass over to Tincup. People take cars over Cottonwood. I followed a guy in a Ford F150 over Tincup. I spend the majority of my summer over in that area chasing trout. I don't live too far away from there so I'm back and forth quite a bit. The scenery over there is incredible as you're right nin the heart of the Collegiate Peaks. 14,000' peaks are all around you.
