I am going to build a front winch mount bumper and have a few questions. Does any one make brakets that mount to the unibody ? It would save me time if I could by the brackets that attach to the unibody and extend out. If I can buy some stout brackets all I need to do is build off of the brackets.
I called Detours to pick his brain. That guy is great to talk to and deal with!
I wanted to make a change in his bracket set up and he was very accomidating. I basically used his bracket and welded 3X3" square tubing to it to make the bumper. The part I had him change was the D-ring mounts. I had him turn them up because I wanted maximum approach angle and front end clearance. This allowed me to trim the very bottom of the radiator support and reinforce the lower suport with steel. The 3x3 tube I notched and fit to follow the lines of the body under the head lights. Honestly I did not like a single bumper on the market and believe that useing his mount and fabing up the rest you will have the strongest, highest ground clearance bumper you will find. The only thing that may be an issue for some is that the winch sits a little higher than some. I personally have run winches into dirt banks and rocks and would sacrifice a little air flow to the radiator for ground clearance.I can't remeber his name but Mr.Detours emailed me photos of things he had done, pointed me in the right directions for an XJ build so I also gave him my buisness for a winch also. Great guy I would recomend you to at least talk to. Hope this helps as this site has help me a lot. Thanks to all that participate.
