Has any one used speed daddy headers?

So we should use a shitty header that will take all day to modify and install to MAAAYBE gain 1 foot pound of torque and save $200?

Your time must be cheaper than mine. :)

Well, if you're gonna look at it like that, Lol!

I look at it this way, it took less time to mod it then it would take to send it back and purchase something else that is nothing much more than a stock replacement. Shorty headers are a compromise. If I am replacing something on one of my "toys", I want it to be better than what was on there before, performance wise. If you would not put in the extra time like I did, that is fine. I don't mind doing it.

Normally, I would just build my own but that would take much more time and unfortunately, there is no one in Vegas with a mandrel bender, that I am aware of. Since this is pretty much the same design that I would build, I have no problem tweaking them a little. If you do not agree, that's ok. That's why they make more than 1 flavor of ice cream, not everyone likes vanilla.

I'm not saying it's for everyone, or the best, it was nothing more than another suggestion so that the OP would have more choices. And I included the pro's and con's and possible, easy solutions to help with the OP's choice, if they so desired. If he doesn't want it, that is fine.

There are plenty of XJ owners on this site that have said that they have had cracking problems with the Banks headers. You have not, and that's great. I, personally, would take a little fabbing over cracking, any day of the week. That's just me.

And my time is not cheap if I am working, but I do not consider wrenching on my vehicles as work. It is therapy to me, I enjoy creating something that I can have fun with.

Banks had cracking problems on their older 'torque tube' header. The 'Revolver header' has more or less solved that problem.

A few people have had them crack. As it happens my best friend is an engineer at Banks, so I have more insight to this than most people do. They have had a handful of them come back cracked (out of a couple hundred thousand sold), but in most cases its the same customers having them crack over and over again, while refusing to look at their motor mounts or trans mount (which are pretty much always at fault on a cracked header).

Shrug. I'm glad the pacesetter works for you. I was mostly pointing out that your review of the product didn't really inspire any desire to buy one ;)

Sounds good to me!

I understand. And I agree that more times than not, the motor mounts and trans mount is the single most important remedy and prevention of the manifold cracking problem.

As far as the Pace Setter headers, if they could get the bends down correctly for the tubing, they would have a winner. They're not off by that much. Unfortunately, they're not quite there and their product reputation suffers for it. Luckily, it's not hard to tweak them.

And don't miss understand, I am not gaga over Pace Setter headers nor do I have any loyalty to them. If someone else made what I was looking for in another brand, such as Hooker, Hedman, Dougs, TTI, Banks, Borla, etc... I would've gone that way.

All's good

Ouch, thanks Talyn. Lol

It would be a start. Then they could up their support instead of blaming it on the vehicle. Then they could use a better grade steel instead of "mild steal" (read cheap crap) then perhaps make it thicker as well. Their competition uses at least 14 gauge and some form of SS(409 or 304). They they might have something half decent.

Ok, didn't know about the customer support, never used it.

I searched and I don't remember anyone saying anything bad about them, but then again, I noticed people were suggesting them a couple of years ago and then all of a sudden, no more talk about them. I guess that should have been a clue. Oh well, I guess I'm stuck with them, let's see how long they'll last. I was was glad that they were made in the US, I'd rather support the US than buy a crack prone stock replacement from China. Well, the good intentions were there.

I apologize to the OP, this thread is a train wreck.

Thanks Tayln and Cal for the info.
