Harlen Feb 19-20

when you arrive you will turn left at a bridge, follow that rd down to where you turn to go in the park entrance, you will drive past the guard shack about 1/2 mile I think and the road goes to the left and up the hill at the end of that road is a group area with covered tables and BBQ pits, that is where I would like to camp I will get hold of Ronnie Shoop and see if I can get some better directions for everyone, I know how to get to it since I have been there before but if you do not know the area it will be a little confusing

Here are the driving directions to the park, Baileys Creek trailhead is the entrance I was talking about

From Interstate 75:
Take Kentucky exit 29 at Corbin. Travel 32 miles south on the Cumberland Gap Parkway (U.S.25E) to Pineville. Turn left onto northbound U.S. 119 (by the Pineville Happy Mart), and proceed 27 miles to Harlan. Turn right onto southbound U.S. 421 and travel 1 mile to stoplight #5. Turn left onto KY 38 and travel 8 miles to Evarts. Directly after crossing railroad tracks, turn left onto Rt. 2430 (Kelly Street). Follow the road 0.7 miles and then turn left across the railroad crossing. Continue for 0.8 miles to the Baileys Creek Trail Head.

From Cumberland Gap, Tenn.
Travel 13 miles north on the Cumberland Gap Parkway (U.S.25E) to Pineville. Turn right onto northbound U.S.

From Pennington Gap, Va.
Travel 23 Miles north on U.S. 421 to Harlan. Turn right onto KY 38 (stoplight #5) and travel 8 miles to Evarts. Directly after crossing railroad tracks, turn left onto Rt. 2430 (Kelly Street). Follow the road 0.7 miles and then turn left across the railroad crossing. Continue for 0.8 miles to the Baileys Creek Trail Head.

I got hold of Shoop and he said he would get a map posted over here showing the way to the campground for everyone, just remember that the Baileys creek entrance is the one you want to use, the other is for ATV's I believe

I can't post an attachment. So here is a map of the area.

The have taken the map off of their website since they are for sale now.
I don't have a version I can post on the web. Once you get to the trailhead on the Evarts side you drive maybe a tenth of a mile and you will come to a guard shack on the right(their is a rental trail across the creek). Turn teft onto trail 11. stay on trail 11 until you see signs referring to coyote campground. No more than 1/2-3/4 from trail head. You will take either left until you are their. Conditions of the campground is muddy right now however due to the rain and Railbed exit(trail that dumps into the campground)

Fullsizexj, you can also camp and park where we had our tent last year too. You remember the junction.

Thanks Ron and Richard!

So we know where to go now... the muddy Coyote CG :D

Mark if I can get my STG and leave out Thurs after work... (I think it-s a 6-8 hr drive from here, just like Windrock & Tellico) I'll wheel with ya Friday.

If you guys are towing to this campground and don't want to try and make that hard left, you can go past the guard shack about a tenth of a mile to turn. Then it would be a straight shot to trail 11.

Ron how is the area that they had the pig roast for the grand opening, it had tables and awnings over them, that is where I would like to camp

Both post that I gave directions to the Coyote Campground had; the wrong trail number. That trail number should be trail 12. Trail 11 is where some of our better obsticles are.

Can someone edit my early post for directions.

Do you mean all the way ontop of the mountain?
If so the road is a little rocky. Many tailer up there.

If this is where you want to camp, the shelter is on trail 10. Once you get to the guard shack(right past the trailhead sign) you keep a driving Straight.
After the second switchback the road will level somewhat. Then you will climb one more time. Once you flatten out again the shelter is on the left.

The shelter is maybe 2-3 miles from the black top.

thats the one I am talking about, is has a nice big area to park trucks and trailers and a nice table area also, pretty decent view also

I will be coming up Thru night...I should be leaving here about 4pm. 5 hour drive for me:D
