i'm running about 5" of lift on my xj & have custom fabbed LCAs & 2"drop Brackets & "redrilled" UCAs (for now)..

i used published info on the lengths of my control arms for this amount of lift, but my question is should the 2" drop brackets i made & implemented into the "frame" mount end of the LCAs should they be a factor that could cause my LCAs to be To LONG??

and do you think that i should also drop the UCAs 2" also so that the arms U & L will be parrallel??

WHen you lower the bottom control arm mount it makes the arm ride closer to level with the ground at static conditions (which is closer to stock) and if you dont change the upper mount at the same time then as your suspension cycles it will cause your axle to rotate changing your castor (i believe) angle. That can be a bad thing because when your castor reaches 0 degrees at higher speeds it can cause your steering to do some strange things. That one point was a major draw back to the TeraFlex Long arm setup for the XJ.

The "published" values for control arm length are I believe are based on stock suspension mounting loactions. When you lower the mounting points it is "like" haveing a lift of only 3" instead of 5" because of the droped mounts and the control arms need to be adjusted acordingly.

I hope it helps, but somebody correct me if i'm wrong because its been 2 years since I took my Race Car Vehicle Dynamics class at college.

yeah i'm getting some (very little bumpsteer) & a few somewhat scary episodes of DW (i've learn which bumps in the road i travel NOT to hit) in reference to the comment about the suspension cycling out of caster-- i say "True dat"

thanks for the input by what your saying tho i need to cut/adjust about 1.5" off my LCAs, i guess i could try running my stock LCAs for a bit & see what that does..

more input paleeese..

does anybody have any ideas about fabing upper control arm frame mounts? sounds like i may need to be doing that.

Sure, buy the RE kit. drops both lowers & uppers safely & correctly.

BUY being the key word, if i were gonna slap leather for the re drop brackets i would definitely reconsider spending the $270 for partial payment of a long arm kit such as the Rusty's LA (repalces the x-member)

Grover: i'm not sure about pricejakko, but i know as w/ most of rusty's parts he'll probly sell ya one of his x-members for his LA kit that has the LCA mounts on it..

well i bought the teraflex shit kit and i need to relocate just the uppers. i didnt know the RE kit lowered both...
