OK, well after all I have researched this week and last, I am down to 2 choices:
Magnum Research Baby Eagle in .45acp
10+1
great design, very accurate out of the box, few problems noted through vigorous
searching online. It is a bit heavy with a full magazine, and the aftermarket support
is minimalistic at best. I can get the gun, 3 mags, a lock, cleaning kit, and a case for
$560 through the Eglin AFB exchange.
Rock Island Arsenal M1911
Not sure on the exact model I would want. I have heard that the tactical model is
the best to get if you intend to do many modifications to it. I would be looking at a
hammer and trigger kit to begin with on top of the price. It is a little lighter than the
baby eagle and will conceal a little better. I am also thinking about getting a .22
conversion for it in the near future (will these fit the RIA?). Initial cost is lower at
$411 at the exchange, but the extra parts and work would be more. ecksjay do yo
happen to have a link to your threads on the RIA issue, I did not find it after about a
half hour of searching
I will have one of each eventually, the Eagle looks like one of the best, if not the best CZ75 clone out there, and you can't find a fault with the 1911 design. I just need to figure out which one first...
wife will be getting a M&P 9mm.
