Does anybody in America actually care what the world thinks, probably not, heck you are the most powerful nation on earth. Two things wrong with that philosophy, your outnumbered about 100 to one at least and two, everybody may be afraid of you, but they sure as heck are loosing all respect for you.

it's the methods I have an issue with...

Are you telling me there's no way of resolving a situation like that one without dropping the hammer on an old lady?

maybe leaving and returning with a social worker?

Enticing her to leave?

How about sitting down and just talking to her for a few minutes?

I've never been a "cop" but I have carried a badge, a gun and county authority...

Most people will do what you want them to do if you can figure out a way to convince them that it's in their best interest to do it...

Going to someone and saying "Get out" or "You have to leave" isn't much of a motivation...

Hell... Give 'em a few more days without running water and electricity or gas and they'll come around real quick...

I've gone on a few forced evictions from public housing and physical removal is never a good situation for everyone involved.

I guess what I'm trying to understand is how police can negotiate for hours with a suicidal POS holding a gun to his own head but can't take a few minutes to reassure and convince a citizen that staying is not an option...

Bottom line...

The order to "Remove everyone by force and take everyone's guns" wasn't thought out or being executed very well...

Let the holdouts die in their homes if they're that stubborn...

Where does the line between being responsible for your own life and the government dragging you somewhere for "your own good" begin?

Craziness...

and he'll be blamed for removing them and saving them.

Well, then everyone will blame W for not going to their homes and personally talking them out.

True...

But you could always claim that those people died last week or that they were never found...

There's people without running water, electricity, no food, rotting to death right here in Chicago...

Don't see the police running in there to move them out for their own good or attempting to take their guns...

:D

Sure do wish they would move ours out.

Will you do me a favor and apologize to everybody for me?

I doubt I´ll get around to everybody, even if I was so inclined. I really can´t think of any excuse, that might come even close to floating. Guess when I´m asked, I´ll just say he was a muscle headed psycho, who got carried away with his own authority. Germans will answer, typical American.
Honore was trying to get the soldiers and police to lower there weapons and appear non threatening, then this lard ass, does a belly flop on a Grandmother.
You do relize this is playing in countries all over the world. With a total population many times that of the U.S. Bound to help the next time the U.S. is looking for international support, for there next scheme.
I´m a combat Vet, who paid his dues to the good old USA. I earned an oppinion. No matter where I´m living.
If your looking for the Gestapo, they relocated to New Orleans. Sure haven´t seen any in Germany, the many years I´ve been here. Funny place to relocate to, looking for freedom, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Is it remotely possible I know something you don´t?

I don't think they are legal in removing the weapons. From what I've been reading I believe the order was issued by the mayor? .

Hmm... go figure. If that's true, he's proving himself more and more everyday to be a total and complete IDIOT!! He's the one they should be removing from his home. What a XXXX hole.

Wanna bet in a few years, most all of those neighborhoods are Casinos, shopping malls and hotels? And the refugees are a distant memory.
Maybe if they are lucky, somebody will do a segment on some morning show, about how they have been living under an overpass for the last couple of years. Or some Cajun with an attitude, will go postal and get a paragraph in the paper on page 15.
Hey guys we are the same people who liberated numerous countries, out of the goodness of our hearts :conceited and now we are gonna save you from the flood, whether you want to be saved or not, at gun point and with force if necessary. Irregardless if you live on high ground or not.
Sorry my skepticism knows no bounds, I believe very little of what politicians say. When they profess humanitarian motives for there actions, I automatically look for the hook.

I don't think I'll be able to change any ones opinion either. I don't know exactly what happened with the old lady with the gun, I wasn't there. But when your life is endangered you don’t have a month to chat online to talk with everyone about what you should do. You may only have a half a second to decide what to do. I’ve never been in that situation, but I can say that other peoples perception and criticism of what I’m about to do to save my life is going to be high on the list of what I’m thinking about at the time. Now you all may think differently, if so, I guarantee that it’ll change when you’re put in that situation. You also have to remember that these officers in Louisiana are homeless too. They’ve lost everything just like the citizens. That makes it a little harder to go to work everyday.
Now about the decision to forcefully move everyone out of there homes, I think that many people don’t always know what’s best for them. I don’t think charging in and taking people is right either. But sitting in a flooded house for a week trying to convince 1 person to leave there home is very productive. I think that the whole situation could have been handled a lot better. The city officials and the white house were lax in the attempt to deal with the situation. We can deliver food and relief to tsunami victims within 48hrs, but it takes 5 days to do the same in our own country.

Tell me what you think.

you make a great point and anyone who criticizes that cop without knowing just what happened is a moron. the point is the woman had a damn gun, end of story

I've paid my dues to the USA as well, so I guess I also have earned an opinion, wherever I am. No one will handle everything perfectly. We've all seen what happens when germans get a little power too, haven't we? You make me wonder how muh of your opinion is formed strictly by your irrational hatred for cops and how much is based in reality. Will some people abuse their power? Yes. Will some people be jerks without power? Yes. Does this mean that every cop is an a-hole? No. I've met more good than bad. Get off your pedestal and put some thought into your replies when dealing with cops. These are guys who voluntarily took on a job that no matter how good they were about it, the majority of people in the world would decide they were idiots. Yet, in this job, they are also responsible to uphold law and order and to take care of us. If I was a cop and in a situation where there's been a number of people shooting at me, or anyone wearing the same outfit as me, I'd likely be a little tackle happy when dealing with someone who has a gun and is being resistant. 80lb Grandma can still shoot me and it'd hurt every bit as much as if some big scary guy did it.

You guys still don´t get it, what if Grandma is the last straw and you wake up the beast. Honore knows, ever seen a riot on TV.
And lard ass can´t take care of one old lady, that probably didn't know what end the bullet comes out of. I repeat, what makes his life worth more than anybody else's.
And I´m kind of sick of hearing it was justified, because she had a gun. Cops spend a whole lot of time with there butts hanging out in traffic, people with multi ton projectiles whizzing past. I wonder if most cops have enough imagination to wonder if the next car whizzing past there south pole, is driven by the last guy they slapped the chit out of. Or worse yet, the last guy one of his co-workers slapped the chit out of and he is about to pay the penalty, just because he is wearing the uniform.
Sorry to say it, but if a German cop was to come to the door, I´d probably invite him in for a beer and a chat.
If I saw Dumbo at my front door, I'd be diving for my gun. The next person the Cops beef, just might Kamikaze on them.
Maybe a Wildlife Officer, just has a different outlook on things, most everybody I confront is armed, likely a pistol, most certainly a rifle with a scope, likely with expanding ammunition. We aren't issued vests either. If I freaked, everytime I saw some idiot with a gun, there would be a trail of bodies going back years, if I survived the first few encounters. One way to almost guarantee getting shot at, is to unnecessarily piss off the population.
You guys may be the alpha gorillas, but your still surrounded and outnumbered.

An old saying once a mistake, twice a fool and three times an idiot. Guess I just bring out the worst in cops. Guess they just don´t like my looks or my attitude. I've had them pound on me, on numerous occasions, I really can´t name one, where it was actually necessary.
Tell you a story, was six months out of the Veterans hospital (war wounds), still going through therapy. Not gonna share the whole story, but five cops did a Rodney Allen King number on me, the whole right side of my face is still partially numb from nerve damage. I was wearing a pair of swimming trunks and had just been run over by a police car. In runs the cavalry and fractures my skull and lowers my IQ about twenty points. Guess I looked suspicious, trying to catch my runaway dog.
Guess my irrational dislike for the gestapo is unjustified. I really doubt I'd piss on a cop if he was on fire. I wasn't born this way. Guess we are all a product of our experiences. Guess I feel some empathy with Grandma.

I think what we see on TV, is just the tip of a very large ice berg. The electorate can try to change things now, or wait till your the next one to catch some cop having a bad day and end up with an attitude of your own.
I vote no, to most anything that says Police or law enforcement in it. A few million more voters like me, would sure as heck get somebodies attention.

I find it extremely ironic that the LEO's down there have authority to use deadly force in order to save your life.

The bad guys are watching this, people, and have no doubt got plans to exploit the hell out of it very soon. Should be a nice train wreck when one or more American cities goes nuclear.......

CRASH
