Greetings from Indiana, and my XJ is acting ODD. HELP?

ok, update. swapped my IAC with one off my girls XJ and the idle would go way up when i first started the engine, then went back down to regular idle. Still have the studdering when slowing down though...

cleaned mine up with carb cleaner and put it back on. TPS and fuel pressure test are next on my list for today. I hear you can test the TPS with a volt meter without taking it off...

this thing is giving me a headache.

Updateeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

went to franks and tested the fuel pressure and that came out normal.

swapped in 2 different TPS's and no changes.

So that rules out the fuel pump, tps, or any clogged fuel filters.

Frank said he saw my driveshaft turning kinda choppy when i was just rolling with no foot on the gas (this is when you really feel the problem). He thinks it could be a tranny issue. Added a half a quart of tranny fluid and no changes.

Might go ahead and pull the cat and put a flex pipe there instead and see if the prob goes away. if then, get a new cat. after that, I'll be all out of options besides a new head gasket

I AM ABOUT TO GIVE UP. SERIOUSLY.

Dude, with the time you'll have wasted swapping out the cat with a flex pipe, swapped in/out ECU's and the $$$ paid for those parts you could have just taken it to a Jeep dealership or specialist.

Get it to someone with the proper diagnostic tools.

When is the last time you had a full tranny FLUSH (not drain)?? If you're due anyways, I'd give it a shot... Let me know when the CELs come back on, and we'll run it through the computer -- no need to drive all the way to Frank's (unless you just prefer his company...:twak:)

right on. should be back on tomorrow im sure. thanks again for the blocks and letting me borrow the dremel.

uh-oh :moon::guitar:

He traded it off for a barbie jeep before anything else could happen.

There is a happy ending: He sold that and bought another XJ. There is hope for him yet...

Ahhh. Know the feeling of driving something sketchy across the country! Just drove this one, pretty much sight unseen, to Ky. from Wa. I'm convinced my head gasket has given in too. At least the parts are cheap and I can do it myself...when the weather gets a little better.
