Was walking around the neighborhood and picked up a bike for $75. I just knew it was an '82 yamaha, but when I looked at the title I realized it was another XJ! Anyone know anything about these bikes?

It obviously needs work. I'll probably sell it or use the motor and tranny for a buggy a few years down the road. Or maybe a locost 7. It's shaft drive so it sould convert pretty easily. I have no idea what shape the engine is in. This is my first motorcycle, so I'm pretty stoked, even though it'll sit in storage for a while.

The 1100's are good motors, run Golden Spectro or castrol syntec in the engine though, it uses a wet clutch and Mobil-1 makes it slip alot.. Try to find a factory service manual. I just sold my 81 XS1100LH [Midnite special] a few months ago when I figured I would probably not ride again, too many asshats out there..

i had to google locost7. Interesting. I knew about catherham and original lotus super 7s. I didnt know there was such a movement out there. Is there kits you can buy ? One you recomend ?

quick google search got me this http://www.locostusa.com/

I think there are kits, but from what I hear building from scratch is quite doable. But I can't even weld yet, so what do I know.

I did a compression test on the motor. First round got 140,40,125,115. Squirted some oil in and got 180, 120, 150, 140. Not the results I was looking for. Guess I'll have to rebuild it if I want to use it. Or maybe I'll just take the tranny for a little electric go cart. I dunno. Anyone know where to get rebuild kits for these motors?

The XJ11 is not well known for it's durability their rollerbearing internals, expecially the cranks won't last a real long time....Shame it's not a FJ1200 those things were gorillas back in the day...full pressure plain bearing motors...a buddy had one in a custom frame (former prostock bike) with a 10" slick that ran 5.20 at 139 in the 1/8th mile.

Parts for the XJ....I would guess mostly used stuff where you can find it...the bike is technically obsolete.

Yeah, that's what it's starting to look like, thanks. Only way for new rings and pistons is NOS off ebay or a weisco big bore kit fo $400. Which I guess isn't too bad, but more than I'm looking to spend. It'll probably just sit around until I get some bright idea, or bother to part it out.

Well I sold it today. Got $300 for it, so I'm happy. But it sold quick, so maybe I could've gotten more. But I ain't complaining.... Just gotta figure out what to do with the extra fun money now.
