got a friend looking at a 91 suburban.

I smell rust from here. How bad is the rust?

Whats your plan?
tow rig or commuter?
compression test, etc.., check all joints, calc a (repair) parts budget.

Then, decide if its worth it. Personally hate rust, some people love it cause they can repair it.

imho: Bring a mechanic (friend) and have them thoroughly inspect it. Vehicles last as long as people take care of them.

commuter. I'm trying to convince him this will be a money pit, especially if he's not willing to do all his own work. Last night he sorta discovered that to maintain a truck like this you gotta be able to do your own work or your broke.

he has a $1k budget. I told him XJ but it seems like the only XJ we found on craigslist last night was Brown's :wierd: the craigslist ad actually said, and I quote, "This truck is in Horrible Condition". That, plus the fact that i know where this jeep has been....not letting my friend buy that thing.

I'll try to move him onto something better, like an XJ. the search continues...

My brother has a 77 blazer with 167000 miles on it and not too much work done to it. the problem is that it was probably ragged out since it was a work vehicle. I would pass unless you wanted a vehicle like that, plus gas milage would suck.

Keep looking.

I sold my 90 for $512 last year. It had been garaged it's entire life. In 19 years I replaced 3 a/c compressors, 1 water pump, 2 radiators, 1 starter, 1 alternator and the R&P.
The 350 is a stout engine and can go 250-300K no problem.
