anybody know where i can get a key blank for a 94 kawasaki ninja 250?
i know the bike isn't the best on the market, but i don't see the point in having this free bike if i can't try to start it. i have a buddy who can cut the new key, i just need a blank to cut! thanks a lot guys! (it's after 5 on saturday, so i haven't called the stealership yet, just lookin for ideas on how to do this deal....):viking:

hmmm... i can't prove i own it, though. two owners ago, the bike was stolen and recovered, then sold to my friend with no title. that guy never got a title, but just rode it around in the country with no tags. i could prolly file for a lost title, but i don't wanna go through all that and not be able to get the bike running once i finally do get keys for it several months from now....

Um.. remove lock cyl? and start it with a screwdriver?

bikes are simple creatures-- since they are "key on-- push button start" they usually have only one or two circuits in the key switch. Do a bit of research on-line and figure what you need to connect with an "on-off" switch or butt connectors. Connect 'em long enough to determine if it runs, and if it does, get a new switch.

^^^ There is that, at least temp to make sure it runs and all, then go about getting a new key from the stealership once you know it runs, and you are able to file for a lost title, because then it will be worth paying for.

yes!!! this is the info i wanted! i have meself a toggle switch, so i'll do that way! i do know that the headlights and some other stuff might be wired in with it, but i'm gonna look tomorrow and see how many wires come out of the ignition switch. hell, i might not put a key back on it, and just chain it to the bike rack when i ride to school! har har har.....:D

so i've found out that there are quite a few things wired to the ignition lock, including the headlight, the CID box(for spark), and possibly some other junk. anybody else familiar with how to start a 94 ninja 250 without the key? i don't mind having to buy a new ignition lock and whatnot if i can verify that the bike runs....

I'd try and take the lock cylinder apart to remove the part with the tumblers in it, then possibly leave the tumbler cylinder out or make it work with a "dummy" key.

Does anyone else find this humorous? Posting questions that could very easily be,"How do I steal this 94 Kawasaki Ninja 250 and then ride it around?" :D

EDIT: People used to get nominated for these types of questions it seems...

someone tried to steal my CBR with a screwdriver once. I ended up buying a new lock cylinder for $25, came with the ignition switch and new key. Once I took the ignition switch off the tree the lock cylinder came off with 2 bolts. I took it apart and drive it while waiting for the new part to come in. The bottom of the cylinder had a "t" that mated into the ignition switch, so I just started it with a screwdriver.

I went out and bought a 4 pack of master locks, put one on each side of the brake caliper through the rotor. Front and rear.

Is the gas tank not locked too? How are you going to fill it?

you can probably get a blank key online from sites that sell lock picks and bump keys just google lock picks and search those sites

haha... yeah, you got me. i think if i was gonna steal a bike, i wouldn't steal this P.O.S. i'd be on a harley, or at least a nicer crotch rocket. anyway, thanks a ton, i'm gonna see if the dealer can make me a key, or if i can at least get a blank so my buddy can cut me one.

whoever stole it broke the lock out of the gas cap, so i can open it with a screwdriver and fill it that way. i'm just tryin to get this thing started, preferably without having to buy a new lock cylinder. i'll look into things that might screw it up a little more if the dealer can't cut me a key. i can always fix it later when i find out if it's worth fixing.
