Good Prices for rear axle?

it saves having to get dirty, but its a bit more then what I seem to recall costing at a pull it your self place. Or about double what someone on here or elsewhere charges for the same thing.

Having just finished a 8.8 swap here are prices I found.

The local pick a parts all wanted around $250 for a complete rear axle not factoring in any special days and such.

Car-part.com had lots of 8.8's, the cheapest I found was $350.

I ended up searching for "parting out" on craigslist every day and pulled one from a guy for $100.

I will say now that I'm done the axle is the cheap part. LOL

One thing I forgot to mention. In Lake Elsinore right off the intersection of El Toro Road and Wells Fargo Road is a Explorer that looks to be the correct year for the 8.8. It has been sitting there for a very long time and definitely is not in running condition.

I stopped by one time when I was looking for my axle and nobody was home. I found one the next day and never went back. If convenient it might be worth tracking down the owner.

Wait for a half-price day at the local you-pull. Bring a cordless angle grinder if you can get one... makes short work of U bolts.

I can have an XJ rearend out in no more than 15 minutes even if it's lying on the ground with no wheels on it. All I bring is the angle grinder, high lift, 5/16 6-point 1/4 drive socket and ratchet, and whatever size is needed for the shocks.

I've pulled a few D44s out of the Ontario PAP and used to pay around $125 but, since they came under new ownership, price is closer to $200 so, a 29 spline 8.25 complete with e-brake cables ready to bolt in for $250 is a steal......especially since you don't have to crawl around in the dirt!
