Looking for some small performance mods for my 01 F-350 V-10 Auto, I do tow my rigs with it so anything to help out Tq and Hp is always great... I gave up on gas mileage a long time ago so I don't care about that side...haha

Besides Warn hubs and 5th wheel mount it's all stock.

Same as anything else...get more air in and get it out the back faster would be a good starting point.

I had a v-10 for about 4 years (05 f-250 ext. cab)

best upgrade: auxillary fuel tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that truck could drink some gas :)

Best mod would be to get rid of that awful V10, and put a real engine in it.

cummins turbo diesel! or you could turbo the crap out of that v10, and drop a bunch of weight. i'd gear it a little lower, and put some free-er flowing exhaust stuff on her. also, put a big ass spoiler on the roof like a semi truck! that'll give ya like a hunnert ponies right there:D

i was going to buy a v-10 after 02 there great dont let anyone tell you different. DO NOT replace the Y pipe from what i heard it moves you TP up higher on the rpm range. I was looking into a turbo system for the v-10 i heard that is the best thing you can do to the v-10. Supers no one makes them anymore for them i checked. Heads you will have to get custom done i found a company but i deleted when i got my XJ:angel: O YEAH also if you want cams for it you have to get them custom made one of the main cam companys make them from a new cam. I heard that the other modular engines parts will work on it like feul injectors. No after market intakes unless you go custom But other then that theres not much you can do to them the Ford made them almost perfect..... PLEASE dont send hate messages either because i can care less.....

We have two V10s here at work. Power is fine with a full load in the flatbeds, gas mileage is terrible. We have one truck (flatbed with hydraulic lift on the back) that averages 6-8 mpg. The other (flatbed, no hydraulic lift) gets 8-10.That's ridiculous. Our F-150 gets 18-19 or 16-17 fully loaded. Yes, big difference in truck but seriously, 8mpg? The ranges I gave on the V10s are loaded or unloaded. If I had been in charge of ordering the trucks I would've gone diesel. The extra cost would've been saved in mileage. Its not uncommon for us to drive the trucks from 29 Palms to Yuma AZ or Bridgeport CA. If the trucks go somewhere it's generally a 300 mile roundtrip, minimum, usually more like 1000 mile roundtrip.

Yes, a CTD would definitely pay for itself in the fact that they get superb mileage loaded to the hilt.

This would've been a PSD...I think our leasing agency has a contract with Ford or something.

Well, the 7.3L Powerchoke is definitely better than the V10. The newer 6.0 and 6.4L = fail

The V-10 is the smoothest running engine I have ever owned.
But that is about all I can say for it. Terrible gas mileage, poor towing ability, and limited upgrades.
I have heard that the Banks exhaust is the best solution, but to what degree it improves its torque curve, I don't know.

haha thanks guys for the varied responses, I agree with jump it's a really smooth truck but it's an 01 with 100k I grabbed for 4,500 bucks.. looking at a diesel with the same specs is easily 9k+. And I get about 12mpg unloaded and 10 loaded with gear and my XJ... :-\ I'll look into the banks route but what about jet power programmers? they do have one for my model.

I loved the two V10 trucks we had at the camp I ran... but I wasn't paying for gas.

When I worked at Conejo Off Road and people came in for performance upgrades for the V10, we usually ended up selling them headers... they were the best bang for the buck on that motor.
