I was going to set them up myself with my Dad who has set up hundreds or gear sets, but with limited time I decided to have someone else do it. SpecFab in Kalama will be doing it. They quoted me $150 per axle, but since they'll be doing it on a lift, I don't have to pull my axles which is a huge plus for me. That saves me hours of time.

5.13's would be awesome, but do you need to run that deep of gear with a Rubicon transfer case since you street drive to and from the trail?

I'm looking to re-gear myself.....(eventually)
I'd like to try to find a deal on a larger D30 carrier to knock down some of the cost. Of course the labor usually is about the same as the cost on the gears from what I've seen/heard in the past. This will be my first re-gear on my own rig, and cost is a huge deal for me. So hearing labor quotes of $150/axle is pretty attractive. I wish I had the luxury of being able to pull the axles, and drop them off somewhere, though.... and not have to worry about turn around time. Thats seems like a pretty good deal for a gear set-up/install with the axles still on the rig Darren! I might have to head up there when the time comes for me to re-gear. (still gonna cost me about a grand tho!!! :bawl

I picked up Gold Cobra from SpecFab the other day, and I love driving it now. So much more power, especially on the highway. My first thought with the 5.13s was "god, I'm glad I didn't go 4.88". It's perfect in my opinion. Although my speedo is way, way off now.

The guys at SpecFab were kind enough to throw on my Currie steering too.

They just "eyeballed it" on there to get me home, so today I aligned it and centered the steering wheel. Only takes about 15 minutes.

Anyway, after that I got the Jeep all loaded up for the long weekend. I'm leaving first thing in the morning to drive the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route with a few friends. I'll post a few pics along the way.

I was thinking about removing the A/C to save weight and I planned on using the compressor to run OBA. The A/C works perfectly. Everyone I've mentioned this to says its stupid.

You wouldn't be saving weight with the compressor still in there.... And it would be ALOT of trouble to remove the condensor/evaporator.... why not just get a relocation bracket and run another compressor for oba? Or get an offboard compressor like a VIAIR or something like that (hard-wire it in with a tank or two) ...wouldn't be adding all that much weight, and you'd retain A/C plus have OBA) WIN-WIN

I wouldn't Darrin. Everyone told me the same thing, however mine never gets used. The last time it was used was on a trip back from Cali 3 years ago. I tried to use it a couple of weeks ago when I was towing in 100 degree weather but the Jeep didn't like it, so I will probably pull mine out at some point. But if yours works I would keep it.

once you remove it you will never be able to cool off. and like josh said, win win. keep it and run another compressor is my vote

Delete it! Get a cooler full of stones and blair some def leppard. With theyou top offoff You will Be plenty cool enough for woodland and almost all of north county. Mine is getting converted before winter I hope! If you change your mind its not that expensive to get another ac compressor.

After having A/C in my truck all summer, the zj has fully operational A/C. That just needs charged. I'm never converting it, I'll stick to CO2 or ill pick up a powerplant

I have a company vehicle that I drive to and from work, I just bought a pickup that I'll be using for running errands, and I'll be taking the Brendamobile if I go anywhere with the family. The amount of time I spend driving Gold Cobra is very minimal to say the least. Also I'd rather drive with the top down than with air conditioning. Not to mention the amount of time A/C is needed in the Pacific Northwest is probably about 60 days a year. I think I'm going to ditch it. Am I a total dum dum? I don't understand why everyone thinks its a horrible idea to remove it.
