When I was at your shop I noticed that you had one of those H-F scissor-style transmission jacks. How do you like it? Will it reach high enough to help get a transmission out of a lifted XJ? Let me know, I've gotta pull the trans on mine to fix a rear main seal leak, plus I could always use it for other projects in the future.

Works well but it will tip easy when up that high. I used it for the 203 and hte 205 in my swap. I also recently used it to pull the ax-5 and 231 togehter out of the 84 xj. It tipped and came out from under the two but that was my fault. I let the tcase shifter linkage get cought between the front output and the shifter tab on the 231. :dunno: Just use it with caution when you pull big heavy tranny and tcase combos. It should reach but you may need to put some 2x6's on it depending on how high your lift is.
 
Thanks. I am debating on which one to get, the scissor type or the floor jack adapter type. They're both in the same price range, but I don't think my floor jack will reach that high. I really can't afford $200 for the one that's made like a floor jack with the tranny holder made onto it, but it will reach plenty high enough at 31 1/2". :eye:
 
Haven't gotten to it yet. I installed my SYE today, and while I was at the parts store buying a set of snap ring pliers for the job I went ahead and bought the rear main seal and a one piece oil pan gasket. Hopefully I'll get to it in the next couple of days.
 
easy peasy.the sexond time i did it was a sbap and the one piece pan gasket worked out niceley. good luck getting the oil pan all the way out. i never did. i had to slide it as far forward as possible. it gave me about a 4-5 inch space to work with getting the seal out but i was nealy painless after droping the pan. by the way have a good breaker bar handy, i used some fence piping.
 
it sucked for me i had 2 inches of lift and it sittin another 5 or so inches higher on stnads and i couldnt get it out but your long arm should help. just take out the starter and ur set. easy peasy!
 
Just a quick tip for you....

If you ever need to do that job again, take the nuts off of the tops of your shocks. This will allow the axle to droop down a lot further and give you plenty of clearance
