Gettin inked...

I get the fact that you want to get the tattoo as a memory for your loss. But I dont recomend getting it in a millitary theme since you will be getting it before you ship out. Wait to get a millitary tattoo until you are in for a little while.

The memory is part of it, but it has other aspects too. Even if I lose a leg in a training accident or something and I can't have a career in the military as I want, I still want this tattoo.
Oh, and I've decided I won't be doing anything to numb it. I've got the appointment set up and, all going well, it'll be done and I'll have a pic up for ya by Friday night.
And thanks for the info on that bacitracin/aloe stuff Dutch, I'll definitely be doin that.
 
Just an FYI, if you already signed up, and waiting to ship, getting a tat can cause UCMJ action against you. Normally nothing happens, but if you get a dick that is having a bad day, he can push it.

What kind of action? And from who? My recruiter or MEPS or...?
My buddy who's also waitin to ship just got another one a couple weeks ago and hasn't had any issues.
 
Any military personal that you will be reporting to. recruiter, meps staff (army), meps medical staff, drill sgt.

Like i said, normally not an issue. got my first one in AIT. Really depends on if you run into an ass during your training. Also, if any medical issues arise from it, almost guarenteed to have something said.

recommend you talk with your recruiter prior to getting it done. theoretically its fine, but murpheys law does happen frequently.
 
Hm. I'm sure I'll run into a few douchebags during training but that's unavoidable.
My recruiter's ok with it, so long as the tattoo is within regulation and all, which it is.

Yeah they can make things a PITA. Especially the fawkers that run the Denver MEPS station... don't get me started on them lol.
So if an issue does come out of this tat what UCMJ action could be taken?
 
Article 15, forfeture of rank, pay, restricted to barracks, extra duty. thats the max. i've only seen 1 guy get an AR15 for a tat, but it got infected and swollen and he couldnt perform his duty.

btw, its article 108. like wilful destruction of military property (which you are now)
 
Dont be retarded, you're not going to get usmj action for a tat of an m16 on the inside on your arm. If it's not visible in uniform you are fine. I joined with only three smaller tats and have never been given flack for mine. A busy of mine did get kicked out after we got back from Iraq for a tat he got, but that's because it went from his chest all the way up his neck and throat
 
Did you read the whole thing? Said its a possibility, especially if there are any adverse medical reactions.

He signed saying no tats, if he gets a dick that follows through he can get in trouble. I take it you were in, you should know how some of them are.

Right now the military is overstrengthed. When he goes through inprocessing in basic and someone has a napoleon complex, shit can happen.

Covering his ass ahead of time is the smart thing to do.
 
I still am in and the army has nothing saying you can't have or get tats. They just can't be visible in his uniform. Now that aspect can be open to interpretation, but the army isn't likely to give him shite. Overstrength depends on who you talk and what branch. As far as I'm concerned we will never be overstrength. The army was approved to nearly double in size over the next few years
 
actually, it used to be the tattoo cannot be visable with the sleeves lowered on the uniform. ie wrists/hands. that actually changed a while back.
(can have tats on hands and neck now)

and depending on what you get done and who is in your chain it can be pushed. did i say it would be? said it could be, and it has been done. Having a tat that causes medical issues where he cannot perform his duty - pushups because his arm is screwed up. also can be push on fraudulent enlistment, because he signed up and said he had no tats.

and finally, the army (and all other services) exceeded their recruitment goal for last year (have the numbers here). As it stands now, waivers are hard to come by, so anything besides medical (waiver wise) is being denied - dui, felonies, etc.
 
2nd on the Bacitracin and saran wrap, especially at night. The saran wrap acts as a layer of skin for protection. Oh and pay for quality ink, 30+ hrs of work has taught me that, dont ask how I know lol.

Oh and the conscept that all ink has to have a "meaning" is a little overrated. Some collectors just get inked to get inked. Most of mine have something meaningful to me, but I also have some that were just done cause I felt like getting inked and liked the image.
 
Final thoughts on this subject:
What ever you get is going to be permanent and you have to live with the repercusions of your choices. What may seem like a good idea today can be a very bad idea 1 second after its completed or 10 years down the road.

Yes its your choice to get a tattoo, but its also about perceptions that others will have as a result of your appearance. Right or wrong, thats just the way it is.
 
I am glad i got my first one on my back where its easy to cover up. I plan to have some sort of sleeve just not my whole arms. For my next one i might get something on my chest or my side. Just make sure its in a spot that is easy to cover up. People will judge you differently if they can actually see it/them. My brother in-law has his whole left sleeve doneish and he gets a lot of people asking about them and a few that dislike them.
 
The whole "stigma" around tattoos is changing. I read a article the other day that said they estimate that almost 80% of people between 18-55 have at least one tattoo.

I look as it as some people hang art on their walls, I simply place art on my body!

why go to the trouble and expense of getting a tat that is easy to cover up are you ashamed you got it ?
