Gearing for someday Jeepspeed XJ

def weight has a lil bit to do with it. i know rex had a hard time with tech as he told me cause his car only weighed 3100 pounds. lol thats soo frakin light its rediculous... 4.0's are a great motor dont get me wrong. I just really want to build a four cylinder for the challenge. i enjoy building motors and trying to get the most out of them and have never doen a four cylinder so im giving it a try

Um, yeah, ok. For the $$ that he has sunk into all the custom internals on that 2.7L stroked 4 cyl, it still can't pull as well as a 4.0. I still can't figure out why someone would give up 78 cubic inches of displacement.

im not giving 78 c.i. cause mine came with a four cylinder lol...

just for the personal enjoyment you feel when you beat someone with a big bad 4.0...its def worth every penny to guy like me or rex

I've never understood that mentality for racing. Sure, if you are just messing around with your buddies then OK I can see that But if you are sinking $15-20K into a race car and the $3-5K per race to campaign it, then why disadvantage yourself? Why spend the $$ to race if you aren't going to do everything you can to win?

well jeepspeed has alot to do with the driver having the balls and ability to know what that jeep can handle and when to lift.
im 90% percent sure the 2009 more series points winner was a 4 cyl 2 door xj for the number it was 17xx lol..
c'mon 2.5 deserve a lil respect right ha

According to MORE, only 1 JS team ran all six MORE races, 1 team ran 5 races, and 1 team ran 4. Most of the JS competitors only ran the 2 MORE races that were on the JS schedule. Not much competition there for a championship. How did they do in the JS series points?

I totally agree with your first sentence. The 4cyl just can't get you there.

ask any jeepspeed team about rex lair or talk to mike barnett or anyone that has seen him go. i believe he is the only js 17xx with a 2.5 but everyone wil tell you he flat out hauls... now granit his car only weighs in at 3100 pounds at race weight.. lol thats really light. im not sure if that more js ran js series who know i coulnt see the numbers on the side.
Im still dedicated to build me a bad ass 2.5 that makes good horsepower..

2.7 stroker
high compression
custom cam
light billet crank
i bet my bottom dollar it makes good horse power it will make great horsepower....

blown is nice but i would rather be stroked..

and all the 4.0's cant even stroke cause they cant go over 4 litres for js series in 17xx class

and please dont get me wrong.. the 2.5 will never be a 4.o but im sure it will keep race pace the same as a 4.0...
except long straights because the lack of torgue

Sorry, but you are wrong. We've been racing against that 2.7 for more than 4 seasons now and I've never heard anyone refer to it as fast. It lacks the torque to pull in the soft stuff. It never has been able to keep pace with the 6's. We've never had a problem catching and passing him. If you don't believe me, just ask where he has finished in the points every year. And his car weighs a bit more than 3100lbs. I've seen the weights of all of them and the lightest car is about 3700lbs.

i do realize hes part of a js team but i spoke with rex just the other day. he specifically stated his rig weighed in at 3100 pounds. maybe hes full of shit idk i havent seen the real specs. well i guess im mistaken but im still goin to build a 2.5 and have fun with it. thats what its all about. you and i know thats what the sport is truely about fun. sorry if i was mistaken i wasnt tryin to offend or argue with.
you and your team im sure know your shit.

what would you think of a super built 2.5 with a supercharger?
ive heard of guys makin big horsepower out of turbo or supercharged 4 cylinders

like i said ive heard of guys when i had a drag car that were making a huge amount of horsepower. now if i could create a similar build with more of a longevity of the motor. lower compression stiffer springs so they wont go flat at like 100 miles blah blah blah... supercharger. bam i bet i could squeeze 250 300 out of a 4 cyl.

yeah, but if I was going to go thru all the hassle to turbo or supercharge my jeep id rather just do it to the 4.0 just my thought.. obviously you can do whatever you want!

no i know the 4.0 would be the ideal for everybody. im just really interested in what i can get a 4 cyl to do. and i love to build motors so if i dont like it i will build a rippin ass 4.0

Sounds cool. If it were me, rather than throw money at a 2.5 I would slap a LS1 in it. Probably weight the same and have tons of power. ha ha

I have a 95 XJ that is a full jeepspeed and I'm running a Currie build ford 9" with 31 spline count cmolly shafts , 5.13 gear and an ARB air locker in the rear and a Currie built D-44 in the front with all the same spline gearing and locker as the rear up front. As im sure you have guessed its a bit on the high priced side but if you want to build a full blown jeepspeed that's what i would recommend. Personally I don't believe in towing your rig to where you want to go wheeling so I find that even with this set up my rig is still very streetable. I would have to defiantly agree with Diesel on the mid 5's.

you could always just grab a junkyard turbo and pipe it in, then run it till it blows up, its not like a 4.0 is hard to come by to replace it with.
