My 90 has a mechanical speedometer so I'm sure his does too. IIRC they switched in 91 to the electronic but his 90 definitely still has a mechanical one. HTH,

I'll take $32 shipped for the full gauge cluster with the tach....it's missing the lil black plastic piece on the far left-hand side of it. It's the one in the bottom of this picture. You can just simply put your lil' black plastic piece onto this cluster....I think it takes like 2 lil' screws to change out.

I'll take $22 shipped for the full gauge cluster without the tach. It's in the top of this picture...and it's missing the lil' black plastic piece and the clear plastic gauge cover. You can transfer the black and clear piece off of your original cluster very easily though.

I double checked and it's the one that I took out of my old daily driver...that I still have...I just don't drive it anymore...it's a 1988. I put the newer looking black/white & red styled one in it's place...it was out of a 1990 MJ eliminator. I don't know if my 88 is different than anyone elses...but this cluster definitely worked in mine. Plus...It's only about a 10 minute job...so I can hook it up and try it out on any one of my XJ's, if anyone's having any doubts, before I sell it. But I know it's the one from it because I left it laying in the back seat when I changed it.

Nope. My '90 came new with that cluster. Both of those clusters will fit any XJ from 87-90 for sure without any modifications except a new oil pressure and coolant temp switch. One of the best and easiest upgrades for any XJ without gauges.

You dont have a clue, all gauge clusters prior to 87 came with the amc logo on the center fuel or tach gauge. it is from an 87 to 90.

That's cool it just sucks that just when I think I know what I'm talking about I'm wrong. Sorry if it seemed like I was trying to show you guys up or anything. All I knew was that the one that I have in my 90 XJ is the one with the tach but didn't look like that and I have never seen any after 86 with that particular cluster. I don't know who left me rock rash but I deserved it since I was being an idiot saying feel free to leave me some, so if you don't want to get rid of it don't feel forced to.(Although I would appreciate if ya did) I again apologize and, blue95XJ sorry for jacking the thread with all this mumbo jumbo.

I've seen that cluster in both 84-86 & 87-90. I thought that the blue color was the identifying feature for the year, but I too was wrong.
The for sure way to tell is on the back side.
I made this comparision photo several month back to show the differences.

Top is 84-86, middle 87-90, bottom 91-96.

I've got a white cluster like the top one in the pic (84-86) that I mistakenly purchased for my 87. This photo ought to go on a permanent tech page somewhere on this site. :lecture:

Both of mine are the middle ones in your pics. That would make them the 87-90 gauge clusters. I also went to the junk yard today and picked up the missing pieces off of them...so it's $35 shipped now

btw, the top two clusters are interchangeable with a speedo cable swap. The difference is the clip retainer on the backside of the early clusters.
