so a while back my gauges stopped working and the only thing i think i did to fix them was route around under the dash face plate and it started working... welll now its not working again... i dont know what the heck is wrong... its got to be a bad connection somewhere and i touched it or something fixing my eletric fan last night...

any ideas?

i'd just stick my hand in there and wiggle stuff around. i've had that problem before with a few different jeeps, and often it's a blown fuse, or burned up contacts where the fuse goes. start there.

the main connection for the gauge cluster is well known for "working" loose. Poking around back there will fix it for a short time. Pull the cluster check connection. You might even need to adjust the contacts. Good luck hope this helps.

i did find a fuse that was blown last night and replaced it but it did nothing for the gauges...

my tach is also not working if that makes anymore since

checked the connector behind the middle gauges but that seems to be fine... the clock still ticks on...

okay so i replaced all the fuses whether they looked good or not with new ones. there is one at the middle bottom that i couldnt replace because its a 12v and i didnt have one. but it was slightly loose fit so i squeezed the clamps together a bit and cleaned off alittle surface rust and put it back in.

and there was one thing under the hood that had came out that the previous owner put in at the coil when they did the tfi ignition swap and i have no clue what it is but the wire had come out so i soldered it back on and screwed it back down under the coil... it was attached with a bracket between the tub and the coil cover. and fired it up and everything is working again...

so i dont know if it was a fuse i replaced the connection on the one 12v fuse or the thing under the hood that did it but im back up and viewing the engine vitals again...

thanks for all suggestions...

i have some pictures i took to explain but i cant upload them here at work. ill do them tonight and show you what i did.

yeah, it sounds like the same ol' stuff i've dealt with on many of the jeeps i've had. glad you got it worked out. i've had a lot of fuses that didn't look blown but had stopped conducting over the years for whatever reason. the fusebox in an xj is labeled for what most of the fuses do, or at least my xj and my old comanche were... my cj was, too, and i bet my waggy is. the tach is on the same fuse as all the other guages, but your speedo on the yj is prolly cable operated like mine, and that's why it didn't quit workin.
